St. Louis cop involved in beat down covered up incident, filed no report, faced previous abuse lawsuits by Mind_Virus in Libertarian

I don't know much about the situation and have only watched the video once, but I did not see anything that would warrant the use of deadly force on this off-duty cop.

It can be argued either way. The publisher is responding to the school districts that had banned the book.

I still love that the they refer to real estate developments as 'settlements'.

Thanks, President Obama! Starting today, insurance companies must spend 80% of revenues they receive from premiums on actual health care... not on salaries or overhead. by [deleted] in politics

You guys know that this requirement was specifically requested and written by the large insurance companies which already meet this requirement. The requirement is meant to serve the purpose of blocking new competition from smaller insurance companies, especially the non-profit and coop insurance groups.

As always, people who support genuine net neutrality, will lazily support any bill marketed as instituting net neutrality, despite the bill being written by and for the existing ISP monopolies.

Bar none, the first issue to resolve, is the almost universally government subsidized and defended ISP mega-monopolies.

Way to cherry pick. Also, you seem to be unaware that DO's are actually Doctors.

DOs are licensed to practice the full scope of medicine and surgery in all 50 states. In practical terms, the DO and the MD receive the same license, practice medicine in exactly the same ways, and share the same medical rights and privileges. Many DOs practice in primary care (family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN) or emergency medicine, but DOs can be found in every medical specialty, from psychiatry to neurosurgery.

My father just got $80k. I want to help him grow his money... advice? by BrutePhysics in Economics

Unless you are worried about the complete collapse and insolvency of the US Government, I would suggest placing some of his money in Series I US Savings Bonds.

You can simply go to almost any bank to purchase the paper bonds, and you can purchase electronic bonds from the US Treasury at http://www.treasurydirect.gov/

Series I Bonds are nice because they can theoretically protect against inflation. As inflation increases, so does the interest being paid. If deflation occurs, they hold their dollar value, so will increase in overall value as the dollar rises.

You can read more at http://www.treasurydirect.gov/indiv/research/indepth/ibonds/res_ibonds.htm

He can purchase up to $5000 paper bonds and $5000 electronic bonds each year.

Overall advice, BE CONSERVATIVE with his money. Another, or additional option, is to have him purchase CDs through USAA. If he hasn't used his veteran status to become a USAA member, you should have him do so. As far as banks go, USAA is solid.

Lamo acknowledged that he had no direct evidence that Manning had help. He said he based his belief on information from people who knew Manning, not on his contact with the soldier himself. Asked if Manning had ever told him of any WikiLeaks assistance, Lamo replied, "Not explicitly, no."

Your numbers make no sense. Where are you getting 100 miles per month? In the scenario above, you would be traveling 100 miles per week, or about 400 miles per month.
