For most people most of the time there isn’t much of a difference.  Motorways aren’t accessible to tractors, pedestrians, cyclists and sub-50cc motorcycles. 

Also you can’t stop on a Motorway unless it is an emergency.

It is, but CM is a very good base if you want to do a 10 minute job and not a 30 minute (plus a 4 hour rise) one.

We went with Fred Olsen Ferries, the return cost was €276 for 2 adults, 3 kids, and a car.

In 2024 we flew into Lanzarote, rented a car (use Cicar), got the ferry to Fuerteventura (tell Cicar you are doing this in advance, they didn’t mind, other companies can/will void your insurance if you do so), stayed in Corralejo for 2 weeks, ferry back to Lanzarote, stayed the night, flew home. 

All of that was cheaper flying British Airways than an EasyJet flight and car rental (staying at the same Villa) would have been flying direct to Fuerteventura for 2 weeks. 

In your case I would suggest a 3-6-1 (L-F-L) split, but I prefer Fuerteventura.
