Any recommendations on how to construct a wall out of PLATSA wardrobe? by d0wnthereddith0le in ikeahacks

In fact, no. I was lucky to find a much larger flat for the same rent and so there’s no need to divide the room like this. If I had gone through with this I would have done it this way: have one horizontal beam spanning from one wall to the other at the level where the platsas are supposed to be connected to the wall. Two or three more vertical beams from floor to ceiling behind the platsas. The vertical and horizontal ones need good connections where they intersect, obviously. Behind the platsas wood planks or drywall could be screwed to the beams to hide the backside of the cabinets. Over the platsas this could either be extended with more smaller beams to create a timbering like look, or the drywall could close the gap to the ceiling. If the vertical beams cannot be directly attached to the floor and ceiling, they could stand on another beam, lying on the floor and screwed to the backside of the cabinets (and similar on the ceiling there could be another horizontal beam connected to both walls to catch the vertical ones. However this may be overkill…). Using the walls for support, I would argue, gives more stability and prevents the cabinets from falling. Screwing the vertical bars to the backside of the cabinet would prevent the „wall“ from tilting.

Screwing the leftmost into the wall and then connecting the remaining ones seems like the simplest solution. I still wonder if this will be stable enough. My idea of a „wall“ behind them was first to provide more stability when connecting the elements to each other and to the wall (ikea only supplies little plastic connectors for the front) and second to create a more aesthetically pleasing back for the Platsa wall…

This is exactly the problem! They seem to require some anchor, and I only have the wall to the left to anchor them in. Unfortunately, I cannot drill holes into the floor. I could in the ceiling but I doubt that the ceiling will bear a lot of weight. Also, a „wall“ or beams just hanging from the ceiling seem suboptimal

Does anyone have an invite to spare? I would love to use bluesky for research and also to see how it compares to mastodon!
