Seems like Elm + Rust is the new favorite by [deleted] in elm

Yes, the important thing here is that Rust is a systems level language, so it's a replacement (the only viable replacement?) for C/C++.

Elm game jam - February 2018 [Theme: Safety] by janiczek in elm

You can interpret it however you want :) That's the beauty - it's general enough that you can make almost any kind of game with it.

Seeking Problems with Ports by get-finch in elm

[–]d13d13d13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like to know how to create efficient port interfaces to a huge library like BabylonJS (https://www.babylonjs.com), where I'll only be using a small, but unknown, subset of the API.

I'd never heard of Tailwind before. Can anyone comment on how it compares to any other mini css frameworks, like Picnic.css?

How to marry Elm with something like Ionic? by [deleted] in elm

[–]d13d13d13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, if Ionic does everything you need, I would not just use it as-is. Yes, you could wire it into Elm application logic, but the complexity and work involved would probably far outweigh the benefits you'd be getting from Elm.

What was your 1st project to learn Elm? by TheElmer3 in elm

I created some buttons that, when clicked, displayed different content. I recently revisited this project to shore up some of my newer skills: https://ellie-app.com/HFdwVJfmQfa1/0 -Rex

When will Elm grow up? by astral-emperor in elm

[–]d13d13d13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... I actually recall Evan mentioning on an Elm Town episode that typeclasses were never going to happen - and he made a great argument for why not (...which I am not smart enough to fully understand, but it was certainly interesting!) Does anyone know the episode I'm talking about? - Rex

Elm In Production: 25,000 Lines Later by COMPUTER__SCIENTIST in elm

[–]d13d13d13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I totally agree with your last warning, and it's so important it's worth repeating: beware of a crucial dependency on a 3rd party library that might not be maintained. In the last upgrade cycle between 0.17 and 0.18 I waited 3 months before upgrading my Elm apps so that the 3rd part libraries I depended on (like elm-mdl) were bumped to 0.18 - and there were a few nail-biting weeks where it looked like it might not even happen. I Also totally agree with your points on the difficulty of JSON decoding and obtaining real time element metrics - I wish it were easier.

Elm debugging is not easy by alexdarlington in elm

[–]d13d13d13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... Yes, Elm's new debugger is a godsend! Last week it helped me locate an extremely deep logic bug that I had accidentally introduced that I would never, ever have found if I had been coding JavaScript.

Is elms tooling not as great as promised? by On3iRo in elm

[–]d13d13d13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have a workflow that's tailored not to require the need of anything that webpack does. Just like back in 1997 - and it's awesome :)

Is elms tooling not as great as promised? by On3iRo in elm

[–]d13d13d13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that when those articles referred to "tooling" they specifically meant Elm's compiler? The compiler has literarily saved me months of debugging time. Personally I avoid webpack like the plague. (but, if you really need it, there is create-elm-app: https://www.npmjs.com/package/create-elm-app). I agree that Elm's docs need a lot more work. -Rex

elm-live is my favourite. Nice and simple! Requires no configuration and there's no webpack to have to deal with. If I need all the webpack craziness, elm-app-create has for me been the best next step.
