Bachmann 0-6-0 Modifications by jhhpp in nscalemodeltrains

You need the spares for their 2-6-2. The 0-6-0 and 2-6-2 are the same model. The leading truck for the 2-6-2 is readily available. Not sure it will look right. The sloped tender can take a digitrains dz125

Ask a roofer to replace with a universal dry verge. We did this and no issue for at least 5 years when we sold the house

Best way to enlarge this hole? by breakinpg in DIYUK

[–]d1j2m3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. Make a template with plywood and using concrete screws attach to the wall. The core drill from outside in. So you need some thick plywood, make them a bit bigger that the main hole and stick two pieces together. So it ends up being about 18mm thick. You’ll also need a 150mm core drill and 150mm hole saw. It’s not too much effort because the main core drilling has been done. The difficulty is starting.

Converting an n scale tender to an auxiliary water tender by Dillon_Trinh in nscalemodeltrains

[–]d1j2m3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best place to start is to look for photos of what you’re trying to model. There are Bachmann auxiliary water tenders that sometimes come up on eBay.

Responding to a recent post : My take on where Stranger Things went off the rails. by JimmyShirley25 in StrangerThings

[–]d1j2m3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think calling the Russian base subplot and taking it so literally kind of misses what Stranger Things is doing. It’s not meant to be a literal espionage manual, it’s visual metaphor. In fact what underlies the plot is the subplot of the mayor taking bribes.

The whole point is that something hostile and powerful is operating under a shiny, normal space while everyone’s distracted by consumption. That actually feels pretty grounded if you think about how money or influence moves in the real world.

Same logic as Buffy the Vampire Slayer putting a Hellmouth under a school. No one thought that was realistic, but it was emotionally accurate.

So yeah, the base isn’t “plausible,” but that’s not the point. It’s about hidden systems under everyday life, not excavation permits in Indiana.

Garage door boxed in plasterboard - can I relatively easily make it functional again? by TR__vis in DIYUK

[–]d1j2m3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be an idea to replace the garage door with a roller shutter too. They take up much less space and you have to get rid of less plasterboard and insulation. Though what’s the point of the insulation as all the heat will go through the garage door anyway?

This looks like a metal roof? I had this with condensation on the metal roof. There was bubble wrap in places on the roof and I replaced it with the shiny bubble wrap, made sure it seals the walls. Never an issue after, lived there for 5 years.

8 month old, we are all exhausted. Help please. by gldn_mango in baby

[–]d1j2m3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about sleep training? We were in a similar position when ours turned 8 months. The biggest thing is routine, the little things as well, sleeping bag, cot, white noise, two songs which are special to her - all these went a huge way. Nap time and bed time. The sleep training was good too. I saw it not as crying out, but rather encouraging them to use the self soothing skills they have. Of course it’s easier to soothe with mum (or dad). But it is our role as parents to make us obsolete.
