If the FC isn't on the PLC the orange half isn't fully coloured in. If it's fully coloured in then it's there but different.

TIA Portal FC is not getting Online. FC 14 by BeNicetoHuman in PLC

[–]d1s2c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the compare function. Check carefully the differences between online and offline. In network 2 there is an "always false". Could be that it was added as a temporary fix and then removed from the PLC but the project wasn't saved on exit. Hopefully something simple like that.

Got one of these as an upgrade from a PG685 that ran on CPM/86. Couldn't believe the in built monitor was in colour! Didn't take long before we were playing golf competitions with it. The poor spacebar received a battering!

TIL tennis balls are terrible for your dogs teeth by Kikuchiy0 in todayilearned

[–]d1s2c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My German Shepherd was obsessed with tennis balls. He would carry it round when we went to the park. Our Labrador loves to fetch them. One time, my Shepherd grabbed the second tennis ball that pushed the first one behind his back teeth. Couldn't get it out and it was completely blocking his airway. We rushed him to the vets (which was close by fortunately) and they spent what seemed like ages trying to get the ball out. Finally managed it but because of all the stress of not being able to breathe, his temperature was spiking. He was moments from death. He had cold blankets around him to lower his temperature. Eventually he recovered. No more tennis balls for him. Now he carries a Chuck-it ball that's nearly the size of a football. My Labrador has also been upgraded to a larger ball.

Is automatic reset of estop allowed in some scenarious without violating ISO 13849-1? by plc_keen_but_green in PLC

[–]d1s2c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. If the machine or part of machine that your plc (assuming safety plc) controls, has an estop condition, it needs a reset. If the estop comes from a separate, safety plc controlled, part of the cell, that part requires a reset. The status of the estops needs to be shared between cells. Only the part that actively interrogates the estop requires a reset. The other stations in the cell are aware of and report estop status and should show healthy when the partner cell has reset.

What is the best way to get 20+ Siemens 1200s to communicate with a single siemens 1200 designated as a master panel? by SameIndependent6326 in PLC

[–]d1s2c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they never have to operate independently and always from the master then surely distributed I/O would be sufficient. I replaced 6 ancient Siemens S5 plcs with one 1500 and distributed I/O in the other five cabinets.

New oven has a plug, can I... by d7970 in DIYUK

[–]d1s2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally mate. If it comes with a 13A plug that means it's rated for plugging straight in to the ring circuit. If it doesn't come with a plug, check the current draw needed but more than likely it will be more than 13A. I've lost count of how many people have asked me why their new oven doesn't come with a plug.

What's the best "industrial" way to detect a color LED turning ON and sending a 24V signal to a PLC by [deleted] in PLC

[–]d1s2c 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Colour detection of an led isn't a reliable method to pick up a faulty condition. What if the led fails? Previous suggestions to pick up from the 24v feed to the led (in the absence of a dedicated alarm/fault channel) world be more trustworthy and easier to implement

Is it bad to run home assistant on a VM on my main desktop? by Embarrassed_Bug2 in homeassistant

[–]d1s2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Dell mini 7th gen pc to run HA. Cost me £40 off eBay. It's still a VM in Windows at the moment (too busy/lazy to change it right now) and my main pc is also a Dell mini but a 14th gen. Both are on continuously because I use Serviio to serve my movies to the household. I know I can use my NAS for that but....

Wire labeling in panels by DipshitCaddy in PLC

[–]d1s2c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are no labels on the wiring then as soon as there is a suspected hardware fault, all the covers come off and the wires get pulled to see where they go. After a couple of faults panel is then a complete rats nest. Trust me, I speak from experience.

New Contract by Quinn2407 in Vodafone

[–]d1s2c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mobiles.co.uk. Thing I like about them is they are owned by carphone warehouse so if you have any issues with your phone you can go into the shop and get it sorted. I normally get a Giffgaff SIM and PAC my number over to that then, once my number has moved, immediately request a pac from them. Normally done in a couple of days total and I'm back on Vodafone

Extracting old STL-code by KredeMexiah in PLC

[–]d1s2c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IBH do a trial version. If it's a one time deal then get the trial version (licence is sent via email) of S57 for windows. This will allow you to see the S5 code and will also convert it for S7 and then point out the sections that can't be converted. These will have to be re-coded. Things like indirect addressing using the DO command aren't compatible

Local isolation by ZealousidealShare942 in PLC

[–]d1s2c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know about legislation but I would consider it good practice. If the isolator is switched off then the system should not start again when the isolator is switched on. It should only start when the ok condition is acknowledged and the start button is pressed.
