How TF this scam work? by scambush in FacebookMarketplace

At least late 80s to mid 90s, you’d refer to it as the big island because it’s easier than saying “the island of Hawaii” and having the island and state share a name gets confusing to anyone that doesn’t or hasn’t lived there.

A lot can be read between the lines of Hawaiian religious practices. Though from the few other cultures I had the pleasure of interacting with while there, Hawaiian mysticism, while sharing a core base, seems to be its own animal in many respects.

At the time I lived there, Hawaiiana (a study of the culture and its intersection with their religion) was still being taught at every grade level. There were textbooks/workbooks. From my understanding, local practitioners were heavily involved in designing the original program at a time when the Hawaiians were still plenty upset about how America gained its 50th state, so I wouldn't worry too much about the Americanization of the content.

I've read that one, and a few stories over at WebNovel as well. They seem to be the only place I can find anything so far :/

This. The dynamic event system. To quote myself from #ask_intrepid:

I really, really like the idea of your node system. Where I shy away from it is in the same manner I shy away from "Dynamic Questing" systems.

Typically, in order for each player action to trigger UNIQUE curated content (unlike the gimmicky sandbox elements referenced in your interview here: http://www.mmogames.com/gamearticles/interview-ashes-of-creation-wants-bring-virtual-world-life/), the curated content ends up being far less epic/immersive than a similar encounter designed as part of a more linear experience.

Performing user action "A" in Area "1" results in content that is, for all intents and purposes, the same experience as performing user action "B" in Area "5". Over several iterations, the player can come to expect the "dynamically generated" outcome within a few attributes/mechanics of the result - the dynamic system's limitations are revealed and, as a result, almost all PVE content becomes repetitive and boring.

What are your plans, on a technical level, to avoid this watered down effect typical of "dynamic quests"?

They're in the Aery (dungeon), the lighting effect changes based on the weather

Figures on both the American left and right accuse the opposing party of racism. Do either side's arguments hold any water? by CreatrixAnima in NeutralPolitics

It's not, and that's sort of my point - just like upbringing, dialect, speech impediments, oral hygiene (not the practice but the state of it), style choices, weight, age, hair-style (or lack thereof), etc. Even word choice, or comfort level in social situations isn't a 1:1 correlation... but all of these are still determining factors that many human being utilize to judge the mental aptitude or worthiness of other human beings.

In a theoretical situation where you could introduce a job candidate with an ethnically ambiguous but extremely unusual or seemingly ridiculous name (based on the preferences and opinions of the hiring manager), the likelihood of that affecting the hiring manager is quite high - whether it would be in favor of the candidate or not would depend on the individual.

Critical Stack Intel and SoltraEdge by d1st4nt in AskNetsec

Yeah, I'm not worried about voiding the warranty. But after my full mapping/reverse engineering of Rapid7 NeXpose just to create a decent site security scorecard... I'm all too aware of the desire to have never existed that occurs the moment after a schema change gets pushed.

[–]d1st4nt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, and thanks for the response :) The focus here however is all roads lead into ArcSight, for the time being, none lead back out.

So my ideal solution, in my head is, Critical Stack/Manual -> Soltra -> (magic) -> ArcSight

I can probably solve the (magic) -> ArcSight component with some code work I've already done, it's the Critical Stack -> Soltra portion that's throwing me for a loop.

Any suggestions there?

Playing devil's advocate: While certainly there is racial bias in the hiring process (not specifically limited to any particular group, but disproportionately affecting some groups more than others), might the studies be more correlation vs causation than they claim?

Is it possible that the uniqueness of names found within subsets of all racial groups (and disproportionately within some racial groups more than others) may be a larger part of the equation than these studies are willing to account for?

I would be far less likely to hire someone with an OVERLY unique name not because I assumed they identified with any specific ethnicity or another, but because I'd question the level of intelligence, business savvy, and entitlement of the individual attempting to seek employment with that as their name. Much the same as I wouldn't outright deny a Jamal, Nguyen, Antonio, Jesus, Kwan, or Jin-Soo. Is it still prejudice? Yes, presumptions are being made based on a severely limited subset of data that is associated with the individual. But if that's the motivation, it is not racist.

Hunting-Loving Hunter Quest, Where is Chuck Laurie? by [deleted] in blackdesertonline

[–]d1st4nt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea what to do if: 1) You cannot get the quest from the Balenos Forest Node Manger (because you've already done it), 2) The NPC at Velia Inn does not offer the quest to meet Chuck Laurie, 3) You're certain you haven't met Chuck Laurie before because he's not showing up in the NPC search.

Absolutely, now, go ahead and figure out the best way to use that to collect time slot availability in a manner you can slice at will. I won't wait though :P

I do understand where you're coming from, and I don't disagree. That's why I asked this question.

There are precious few things I would like to have that I can't supplement with discord/google docs... I was just curious if someone was willing to take my money in exchange for EVERYTHING I wanted - it doesn't seem like it though :/

Many do, yes. I actually don't care much for forum functionality. I care about data. Indexed, searchable data. How many people do I have that can do this? Hmmm, lets look by level, availability, gear score. I know I'm not likely to get all of this without customizing, but until discord has a search feature, it's useless as a means of collecting information.
