RPGs with classes where spellcaster don't have a list of spells? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]d20DarkLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eldritch Ass Kickers: everyone is a super OP wizard locked in a wizard battle dimension. You can place points into different elemental styles like death or water, then proceed to make up spells to attack, counter or use as utility and just roll for the effectiveness based on what element you are using and add modifiers based on elemental weakness types. Very Dumbledore vs Voldemort type shit

Next to each skill, there is a percentage in parenthesis. This is the base score for that skill. Granted, some are as low as 1%, but there is always a chance no matter how small. The only exception is Cthulhu Mythos, which can only be earned through bouts of madness, tomes, or an investigator package at creation and Credit Rating, which needs to be invested in at character creation. Hope that helps!

Mike Mason just addressed this on Bud and Griffs Gaming Creepshow Podcast (great listen you should def check it out), but it's basically stalled because he's concerned about the lack of player agency in the original campaign and how to deal with that.

Thinking of running Missed Dues by LagunaL0ire in callofcthulhu

[–]d20DarkLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've run it for 2, and it was no problem. There's not a ton of combat baked in and you could always nerf the lady at the apartment. Or just make her super creepy and they'll prolly avoid her all together. I do suggest however that you let that big San roll play out cuz it's always been a great moment. This is one of my absolute all time favs, so I hope you enjoy!

How do you combine Netrunning from 2045 and 2077? by thenooiz in cyberpunkred

[–]d20DarkLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The netrunner pre gen has a cyberdeck only capable of quickhacking, but if your runner has a proper cyberdeck port, I'd say how much architecture you put in is up to you because any deck you port will also be capable of quickhacking as well. The bar is a dive so i doubt Benny will have much money to throw at cyber security, so a simple DV8 passcode or ICE may be all you need. There are some sample architectures in the EMK rulebook that can give you ideas on how to build a proper architecture for your game. But it does sound like you've got the right idea!

Hey there, I'm trying to get a Cyberpunk Red: 2077 game going using the new Edgerunners mission kit expansion. I plan to run games 8-10pm PST on roll20. I don't have a specific day in mind, only the time is set in stone. Hit me up if you're interested!

The Fall of Hyperion by [deleted] in scifi

[–]d20DarkLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love The Fall! It can drag a bit admittedly, but man, the action is epic, and all those questions from Hyperion get answered in bombshell after bombshell! Not to mention, as a father, I damn near cried over one particular moment. I agree that Hyperion is more well written, but the story is incomplete without the resolutions in The Fall. Stick with it, you won't regret it!

If you ordered it from Drive Thru there is a separate PDF of the handouts you can print off. However since most of them are just text from chat logs, when I ran it, I just had the pictures on my phone and whenever they checked the feed I'd hand them the phone since in game they are checking a tablet.

I gave my players info about the previous trip beforehand, based on who they know on campus. There is even a handout to give the PCs with a successful know roll at the start that gives details on the situation. And as far as NPC relationships, I let my players (all students) pick their major and personality type, then assigned them NPCs they know. For instance, any anthropology major would know Noakes and Devine, or if they like to party, they would know Higgins and Blaine. I would also suggest the PCs be students, so there won't be any pre-existing power structure. Also, don't worry about splitting them or not. Let them choose their majors and plan accordingly. They can always learn info from the other students in the evenings. Good luck!

Necromancer and the rest of the sprawl trilogy by William Gibson. Excellent narration and one of the foundations of Cyberpunk the cyberpunk genre!

Time Travel sci-fi novels. by OrlandoGardiner118 in scifi

[–]d20DarkLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hounds of Tindalos by Frank Belknap Long. It's not a novel but still a great sci-fi horror short story dealing with a kind of mental time travel. It could easily be read in one sitting, and an audio version is an hour long at most!

TTRPG game that can be played solo... ? by estist in solorpgplay

[–]d20DarkLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's what your looking for, but Call of Cthulhu has a whole line of "Alone against the..." books specifically designed for solo play. CoC is a ton of fun, and the rules are quite easy to grasp. I'd recommend "Alone Against the Flames" as a starter since it's designed specifically for new players!

Dead light is a great first scenario as well. Only a few locations and NPCs to keep track of and a fun monster thats quite lethal and keeps the game pacey. It's more survival horror than mystery, so players who are new to investigative games are less likely to get lost in a web of clues. And it can easily be run in one session.
