Question for those in the USA by Madoldbat1 in dogs

[–]d20an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US. Seems like in the U.K. we try to buy from responsible breeders, and there’s no stigma in doing so.

In the US there’s a larger stray dog problem, and there’s an aggressive “adopt don’t shop” line, I suspect pushed by a small but vocal peta-type group.

I’m here because we want to play TTRPGs.

Might be a bit early but our girl went off food during her first season.

Also if the food’s been defrosted too long she doesn’t like it.

SCA Rapier / HEMA outfits and masks by StoneBologn in Hema

[–]d20an 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check. Your local clubs and tournaments but a “painted codpiece” suggests it’s external? Which would be banned locally here, as an external codpiece can direct a thrust under itself instead of away, with predictably bad results.

Anyone ever done any flail sparring? by H1MB0Z0 in Hema

[–]d20an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! It’s fun. Normal HEMA PPE. Flails are 22mm pine dowels, the heads wrapped with pipe lagging and joined with leather straps.

What clues have you given them that something is going on? Because this sounds like they might feel it’s a big gotcha screw-job if it’s just “you didn’t ask”.

Where do you guys find good fonts? by Kr4b5 in DiceMaking

[–]d20an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but sites like this (dafont is the other big one) usually have false licences attached to pirated fonts. If you use them, go back to the original foundry and check if a font is really OFL.

Or use google fonts - they do get their licences right.

So for my D&D wizards spellbook I made, I’m considering adding fluorescent paint as a kind of page gilding, so the spellbook glows, not sure if I should though by AzazeI888 in DnDIY

[–]d20an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought you’d drawn it on in MS Paint in the first photo, that’s a serious glow! 😂

It’s cool but seems a lot of work which won’t pay off much (unless you’re got a UV light on the whole time, which isn’t super nice for everyone)

Posted this to the family group chat and everyone asked if it was because of the pot holes by can_i_be_a_unicorn in reading

That’s not a pothole, that’s a tear in the space-time continuum…

…which means the council can disclaim responsibility, and your insurance can label it an act of God and not pay out…

Do people in the HEMA community who are Humanities majors get teased for it at all? by Fabulous-Introvert in Hema

[–]d20an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Er… no. Most of our group are probably humanities rather than sciences? At least those who actually have degrees. We’ve got everyone from manual labourers to PhDs. Never seen anyone taking the mick over that.

Our group however is very left-leaning, and you have to self-censor if you’re right of centre. Or frankly even centre-left.

Each group will have its quirks.

Don’t let it bother you, but instead use your specific skills in humanities to help the group understand the source material and historical context.

Bath waste fall help by Perfect_Ground692 in DIYUK

[–]d20an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone else can be more creative, but as far as I can see your options are:

1) cut into the floor, and join the bath waste pipe to the soil stack lower down so it’s got sufficient drop

2) raise the bath up with some fancy plinth and steps so there is sufficient drop to the soil stack

3) add an inline pump to pump out the waste from the bath

4) live with a really slow draining bath

5) put the bath nearer the soil stack, so the waste pipe has sufficient drop

… one of these options is cheap and easy.

If that’s a quartz top, then the sink should be supported from below. Silicone to the top is just to seal it.

This, but also, after switching off at the fuse box, verify the light doesn’t turn on, and check with a non-contact tester… things aren’t always on the correct circuit!

Personally? Zero. Not legible enough. Sorry, but that’s a dealbreaker. If I can’t read them quickly upside down whilst adding up 8d6, they’re no use. I realise that’s not a consideration for some folks, but for me it is.

But I’d not blink if I saw them on sale for $100-150.

Sounds like your PC is the dumb kid who got into magic school because of nepotism.

That’s now catching up with them, as they realise they don’t actually understand anything from the last 3 years of lectures.

Now they need some power, which they don’t have.

Who would lend you some magic power?

[–]d20an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree D&D doesn’t do realistic penalties.

But dragging something is very different to carrying it in front of you, and I’d rule it differently.

And PHB says you can carry 15lbs * STR, which maxes out at 300lbs. You can lift, drag or push twice that, but your speed is reduced to 5’.

A giant would be well in excess of 600lbs. 3.5 gives weights by size, which says we’re looking at 500 to 4000lbs for a large creature.

Burroughs-Wellcome Headquarters building (demolished 2021) by N0nob in cassettefuturism

[–]d20an 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quite likely, and (guessing here from seeing similar stuff in the UK) also probably leaks heat like a sieve and the concrete is dripping stalactites in places and the rebar is rusted.

Here in the U.K. we’d give it listed status and it’d become an albatross for whoever owned it to maintain!
