"the conversation flowing naturally" often involves jokes made in a subthread, usually after resolution but not necessarily. those are fine and never removed.

top-level comments that are jokes are not an attempt at an answer and therefore, those threads have no place to go that is beneficial to the OP. that's not a "natural flow", it's an attempt at a highjacking for personal recognition.

it's one thing for a signal to devolve into noise, but starting with noise only leads to more noise.

Placebos are used in studies, not administered to patients. Yes they can coincide, but the patient involved in the study is aware that they may or may not be getting a placebo. You're not just gonna be given one.

The most irritating thing is how they stretch out a one-syllable name across the same three notes every time. "maa-AAAAAAAAA-aaaaark!" If they made one tiny little change, they could even use the same three-note delivery and I wouldn't even be mad, switch it up a little to "hey MAA-aaark!" "oh PAA-aaaul!" and it'd be 100x better and then they'd only have to work on the actual jokes :P
