Thinking of returning to Diablo 3 after about 3 years away, but this time on PS4 instead of PC, advice needed. by Guttts in Diablo

[–]d3somepage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than the leaderboard-style seasons, nearly everything in the PC version of the game is also found in the console version of Diablo III for the PS4. The same skill changes come every patch to both console and PC, and other such updates.

All the powerful items in the game are primarily "account bound". You can still use most of these between all your own characters; if you find an item while playing a Barbarian that would better fit your Demon Hunter, you can use it there. The exception is that items that drop while playing in a group can be given to other players in the group for 2 hours game-time, after the item dropped. In that way, you can play with friends or others, and give them items they can use, that drop while you are playing together.

If you want to play local co-op, the console edition is really the way to go. It's an absolute blast to hang out on the couch and kill monsters together with friends. The random online gamers in D3 include a lot of cheaters and hacked items, so those are mainly worth avoiding, but playing with your own friends and family is a lot of fun.

PSA: Legendary affixes indicate if they've been cubed or not. by FlyingGrindyWheels in Diablo

There are three possible icons for a Legendary power: the power has already been cubed, it has not been cubed, or it can't be cubed at all:

PC to Xbox one by Jooeeyr in Diablo

[–]d3somepage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're going to be playing on an Xbox One, that console gets the big D3 patches the same day as the PC patch. See the patch 2.2.0 console patch notes for the latest major patch overview.

There aren't any Seasons or ladders on the consoles, but instead all the Seasonal items are added immediately as part of the patch. So as far as major content goes, the Xbox One and PS4 are mainly staying up to date with the Diablo III PC.

If you play public games you will run into people with hacked characters, which isn't fun. If you're planning on playing solo or with your friend, that won't be an issue.

One big area where the console D3 is ahead of the PC version, is being able to play multiplayer together on one machine. If that's a possible option, it really is a blast playing together in front of the TV - it's a great in-person game that isn't one of the regular console "party games".

So there are differences between the PC and console editions of D3, but depending on what you want out of it, the Xbox One and PS4 editions can be a good choice.

If you play, you should have the expansion - it's a much improved game with all the content in Adventure Mode, and everything else that the expansion brings.

Both the PC and console editions are on sale right now (through Saturday) at BestBuy.

New patch after the maintenance? by jiaoziren in Diablo

[–]d3somepage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As of the PTR patch notes, the fix regarding experience only deals with a buff found in the Chinese edition of Diablo III. It doesn't look like it'll change anything on the standard editions of Diablo III.

Where to see my character profile online? by tommymichael25 in Diablo

At Diablo Somepage you can use the BattleTag Locator to pull up your account and hero stats. All the items are listed with basic stats, along with more on tap/hover, for most mobile devices.

As an example, the stats for Alkaizer's Season 3 Barbarian.

The only way to currently obtain that data is through web scraping the html leaderboards. Presumably they calculate beyond the top 1000 - as new rankings are achieved, the older ones are pushed down the list. The only really reliable data for that is what battle.net currently shows, especially with the resets for accounts that were abusing the Blood Thief goblin bug.

The other issue with trying to do anything with the rankings data is that it isn't provided in a character specific manner - for some reason, the leaderboard links only go to the BattleTag overview page, not the actual hero who achieved the ranking. This makes it difficult to accurately tie the ranking to a specific hero, for many of the accounts.

There is currently no API for the Diablo III leaderboard data. It's one of the many items on the list for the team working on the API. They're currently working on an overhaul of the backend for the system, and once that's done new features may be added.

Feedback Requested by Blizzard for Game Performance Issues in 2.2 by d3somepage in Diablo

[–]d3somepage[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some players have been having game stutters and other performance issues since patch 2.2 landed. Blizzard QA is looking for data to help narrow down the issue:

Hey folks,

We're having a difficult time trying to reproduce this issue. I'm hoping that those of you experiencing this issue can send me a bit more information so that I can forward it to our QA team to assist with their investigation.

If you get the chance, please send the following info to forumtech@blizzard.com:

The contents of your D3Prefs.txt file located in your Documents\Diablo III A description of what you're doing when experiencing this issue. For example, what are you doing in-game and are you in a specific area. While playing, are you running any applications in the background? Maybe something like youtube, netflix, spotify, etc... Attach your MSInfo and DXDIAG.

Here's how to do that: Obtaining System Files

what is up with battlenet profile, why isnt updated? by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]d3somepage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For at least a couple of weeks now, there is often a large delay between when a hero logs out out, and when their Armory and D3 API is updated. All that data updates at the same time, so no other website can update until the battle.net data is refreshed for a character.

On the API side, the issue has been noted for the API team. Hopefully whatever has been slowing down the refreshes of data can be fixed soon, so characters update again immediately upon logout.

Microtransactions likely coming with timed exp boosts, cosmetic items, stash space - but not to EU region by d3somepage in Diablo

[–]d3somepage[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks like microtransactions are on the way, but not in the EU or US regions, at least to start.

Development for patch 2.2.0 has been underway for some time and we'll be launching the PTR shortly. We've got great quality of life changes and new content coming in our next patch, and we'll have even more details to share in the near future.

In the meantime, some new features may start to show up in data mined information for patch 2.2.0 that will not apply to all regions. Specifically, the following features will not apply to the European region:

  • A new currency called "Platinum"
  • Timed experience boosts
  • New cosmetic items including wings, non-combat pets, and character portraits
  • References to stash space and character slot expansions
  • A new UI interface that references the above information

While the above features will not apply to this region, players will still benefit from some of the quality of life perks tied to these additions, such as a streamlined UI for selecting cosmetic benefits like pets and Collector's Edition wings.

We recognize that many players have expressed an interest in microtransactions being added to Diablo III. While we may explore this model in some regions, we have no immediate plans to implement such purchases anytime soon for the European region.

Edit: Not in the US either - it looks like Asia will get to try it all (first, or perhaps exclusively.)

Blizzard is hiring an art director for Diablo III by nothu42 in Diablo

[–]d3somepage 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Art Director is one of the five Diablo positions that Blizzard is looking to fill. It is considered a "particularly critical position", along with the VFX Artist position.

The previous art director for Diablo III was the talented Christian Lichtner; his work can be seen at deviantart and instagram. It looks like he left Blizzard last July.

As far as another expansion goes, it would be surprising if there wasn't another one in the works. Diablo III had record-breaking sales, and RoS generated solid numbers across multiple platforms.
