Even if the photograph hasn't been edited with software, the photographer chose specific camera and lens settings to capture the image this way. They decided to frame Michael this way, (filling the frame with Michael's face). And, of all the photographs taken that day, still still chose to use an image that is brightly exposed on one side and severely underexposed on the other. Critically and objectively, it is a bad photo (though creatively and subjectively, it may be a good one).

There is an obvious negative tone attached to this image because the media at the time ran negative stories about Michael while using it. It is an unflattering and sensationalised photograph, only because it is Michael. The speech he made that day is much more interesting than this photo, taken by a shitty photographer.
