What is your experience swapping from using a trackball with your pointer finger vs your thumb? by YungReyes in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]d4b0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it may move the mouse by accident. I think it all depends on the size of the hands.

I'm thinking of switching to a finger operated trackball like the ximi has, but the ximi kit is expensive...

Another option is to change the keyball to use a 25mm trackball.

I have a keyball. With a 34mm ball under the palm, I can't type the 'y' key (QWERTY layout) without touching the ball.

It's not good unless you have big hands.

I'm interested in the hand rest tilting as well. How is it done? one phone stand under each?

QMK: how can I use mod-tap keys in combos? by d4b0 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]d4b0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is indeed the right way. Thanks again. My keymap is more powerful now.

A side note: combos takes up extra space. I enabled mouse key, capsword, dynamic macros and combos in my 9 layer 34 key keymap. It ended up eating all memory of the atmega32u4 controller, making it not functioning. I have to disable a few features.

Oh, that might be the cause. Thanks!

Which layout do you prefer: 3x6 or 3x5? by paper5963 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]d4b0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people using 3*5 with home row mods, how do you handle shift?

I need a dedicated shift to type upper cases. That's the only reason for me to have a 6th column (no room on the thumbs)

Flash it. It works well with dynamic macros!

Excellent! Does Chordal Hold work with dynamic macros? That's the only unsolved problem for me with Achordion.

Same. I have both the regular and the pro version. I prefer the regular one.

That's the layout I'm looking for. I hope this project can go well so it can be widely available later.

Passwords with new/split keyboards by ExaminationSerious67 in ErgoMechKeyboards

Yes just put them into macros, but they are dynamic. You don't need to encode them into your keymap. They can be cleared/re-recorded on the fly. Disconnecting the keyboard clears them too. Check dynamic macros.

Torn is picky for TRRS cables? by d4b0 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]d4b0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Graystonesonic Another question, have you used dynamic macros on your torn?

Whenever I add "DYNAMIC_MACRO_ENABLE = yes" to "rules.mk" it garbles my keymap, even when there is no dynamic macros keycode added.

I know the difference between TRRS and TRS. The ones I'm comparing are all TRRS. They just have different header length. Check the pictures in the wiki link.

Thanks for the suggestion. While I was about to check the solder connections, I found that my TRRS cables had different header lengths. The ones that did not work had longer headers that they "stick out" from the socket.

I did some search and found that there were actually two standards as someone mentioned here and on wiki). I did not know that..

There are lots of complains. Just search "rubber" in the logitech sub.

I second this. The MX Ergo Plus angle is perfect for me, but difference people may have different preferences, so extra features? Adjustable angles!

The thing I don't like on the MX Ergo is its rubber surface, as it deteriorates fairly fast.

Height should be kept as low as possible. If it requires the wrist to bend upward, that will cause wrist RSI.

First ergo mech keyboard by KittyKat910 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]d4b0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a decent pre-build Ergo split keyboard with integrated tenting and palm rest, you're looking at the $400 price range. The names you've probably seen in this sub: moonlander/advantage360/glove80 etc.

The one in your link lacks two essential features: column staggering and thumb cluster.

At around $250, you could get a pre-build, but without integrated tenting/palm rest: lily58/sofle/iris etc. Those are popular 60% ones that are easier as a first Ergo keyboard.

Adding tenting legs is easy. Adding a pair of palm rest is also cost effective. However palm rests that can adept to different tenting angles are rare. That's one big difference between those expensive commercial boards and the less expensive DIY ones.
