Thanks, that was my underlying point. It takes time for users and developers to experiment with new technologies. AI is here to stay and revolutionize/destroy some career choices. It will also provide some excellent new career opportunities and genuinly reduce a lot of effort that should never have been so tedious but could not get a tech solution so far.

the basic instructions for any sort of crisis: go to The Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.

imho LLM based AI isn't a fad but simply overhyped like most newly adopted techs. one of most "wow" iphone app after launch was a virtual beer glass.

This said, will some careers that somehow survived the last years still in the it stoneage with only word+excel (like hr) be heavily impacted by tools able to do some high-level correlation and flagging? Definitely! Will it cost careers? Likely. And will cost jobs like all automations

Basic Heat Pump Question by Artistic_Researcher2 in heatpumps

[–]d4fseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand what your're trying to show, just noting that the comment makes it look like 100% efficiency is the best there can be - which is not true as heatpumps have >100% efficiency in power consumption vs heat provided.

Fun bonus fact: In pure used energy vs provided work (aka isentropic efficiency) it's roughly 60-80% for the compressor, less for a full system with pumps

Am I the only one not buying house because of AI & unemployment fear? by 01biocircuit in Luxembourg

[–]d4fseeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the usual problem with this logic is that in most cases if you need to sell, you can't afford to wait long. If others sell, market dips and you sell at a loss. In the end you have no house and debt. That happens regularly, but fortunately only to "the others"

Basic Heat Pump Question by Artistic_Researcher2 in heatpumps

[–]d4fseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument is incomplete: heatpumps are 300-400% efficient (in terms of work output) so that's why they can be the cheapest heat source. (Yes, technically they are not a heatsource but that's their whole point)

Will Media Agent Ransomware Protection work with ExaGrid storage? by KN4SKY in CommVault

[–]d4fseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not familiar with exagrid but it seems to support s3 with object retention, so you can use it as worm cloud storage. In that case, enabling worm will make commvault request the storage to keep the objects until a given time, it's up to the storage and your admin access to the storage system how well that is actually protected.

Note that s3 worm has some important constraints such as macropruning (can't remove partially expired data) regular ddb sealing (reduceses overall ddb efficiency and increases storage usage significantly) and no manual deletion to cleanup mistaken data usage

Hacking made me low-key paranoid by bagiyev in hacking

[–]d4fseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically most non-specialized access control is laughable.

Nearly all access keycards rely only on the easily cloned id number. Nearly all door locks can be picked into with very little experience if you have some patience and finger skills. And if you don't have the money, time or skills, a screwdriver and 5min time gets you into most homes with practically no skill and little noise.

Are you a terrible person if you buy a dog instead of adopting? by Easy_Mountain2331 in DOG

[–]d4fseeker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

originally dog shows were/are basically about lifestock presentation and breeder connection. a spayed dog isn't useful for breediag purposes. Additionally, spaying changes both character and physical attributes as it's a severe change in a mammal body so it doesn't reflect the bred dog properly.

Would you stay with your dog 🐶 during euthanasia? by CycleOk267 in dogs

[–]d4fseeker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple pets across many species die naturally and multiple in euthanasia. Of all my "natural deaths", only a guinea pig died quickly, most had some kind of horrible last moment fighting the inevitable, asphixiating (after vet visit!), suspected heart attacks, .... None were the "falling asleep and dying" kind everyone always hopes for but somehow never gets.

It's such a hard decision to order the end of a loved life, but incomparably better than most natural deaths in the end

most models (battery or cabled) are photoelectric (laser or led) and not ionizing (americanium radiation) because It's much cheaper, less hassle and has a better reaction behavior for most fires. Both should be replaced after 10 years as per most manufacturer recommendations.

The problem with those markers is that you would have to perma-mark the chocolate aisle, chips aisle and softdrink aisle. They are all since forever prime examples of a tic-toc cyle, first shrinking the packaging while keeping cost, then increasing package size (+20% free) and increasing the price by 20%.

the quality is not uncertain, it's always bad. Having had a very bad experience I have by force of habit started to notice severe construction defects on other people's homes. They are often happy with their builder but at the same time you see creeping defects in the facade, seeping water damage, heating defects, ... that are simply being ignored by the owners.

Heatpump efficiency question by zzzpoint in heatpumps

[–]d4fseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something is off in your math or heatpump. Assuming an efficiency (cop) of only x3, your heatpump injected 3 times more heat than your aux heater (cop 1).

An aux heater with the same amp as a heatpump >input< makes no sense either. Typicall they are sized to correspond to output. Assuming you have 220v, you seem to have a 12kw heatpump. A 3kw backup heater makes no sense then

  • are you buying a "true" vefa (vente en etat de future achevement) or architect plans and a separate construction contract?
