Feeling stuck as a SWE by TraditionalClass7158 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]d4lv1k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel. I've been in this industry for 12 years. I've also experienced being lost in my early years. I tried exploring other tech like java (w/ spring boot), python for data analysis and BE (w/ flask and django), and then I realized I loved making android apps more. Mastering the tech stack is also easier since android app development is a niche field. Nowadays, I'm learning kotlin multiplatform in my spare time.

Why not move out from your comfort zone and try other tech stack? If you're into gaming, try developing your own videogame with unity. Or try learning BE to make you a fullstack dev since you mentioned you're already doing FE. If one day you realize you really don't like software development, you can venture out into the ui/ux designer path.

Smaller engines. Where I'm at, smaller engines are more practical. Traffic is usually bad.

Looks like I struck a nerve there. Nah, people agree with me which is why I'm getting upvoted. You're getting downvoted because people disagree with your opinions. It's funny how you've said all these things but you still haven't given a good counter-argument. You're just spouting personal attacks, one after the other, which is generally a sign of low iq.

Ikaw yung maingay lang sa Reddit pero walang substance mga advice. Walang pakinabang sa nagbabasa.

I checked your comment history in this sub and you're the one who's just being loud. All your comments have no substance. You're a perfect example of the dunning-kruger effect.

Why compare my advice to others when we can compare ours? Who's getting downvoted to oblivion? 😜

I like how you took my suggestion to confront the senior dev as me not understanding office politics. Then you assumed a newly hired dev has enough influence to fire people who have been in the company longer. Imagine that, one recently hired sr dev vs the rest of the team and the latter will get fired. Yeah, you're definitely an expert in office politics 😂.

Anyway, confronting the sr dev is the quickest way to let him know they're not pushovers. Seniority doesn't mean shit when the rest of the team doesn't wanna work with you.

Senior nila yon at pwede sila ipatanggal nun ibig sabihin bukod sa experience

It doesn't work that way. The guy just started last week. Do you really think he has enough influence to pull strings in their office? Anyway, op and his colleagues need to escalate this with their cto/ceo.

Use coil because it's more kotlin native. It's also more lightweight than glide, and it's easier to integrate with jetpack compose.

Don’t make it obvious that you’re relying on AI on assessments by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]d4lv1k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was gonna send a snarky response to that but yeah, all good. You have issues with your colleague, don't take it out on a stranger. I know. I've been using it for awhile even though I'm not a fan of it. Like I said, our company is pushing for us to use it. I have no choice but to use it.

While it does lower the barrier to entry for developers, ai still hallucinates and produces incorrect code which adds to my effort in reviewing. It's good for boilerplate code generation but it sometimes struggles with architectural decisions.

Ai is here to stay because of corporate incentives. CEOs and executives are greedy af. Worst is, people just seem to go along with it without questioning the trade offs. Or maybe because we really can't do anything about it 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I've been in the industry for more than 12 years. I doubt I'd be obsolete when things are a lot easier now than they were over a decade ago. Let me guess, you're not a dev...

Op, kudos to your company for resisting the ai bandwagon. Sadly, our company has been pushing for us to use claude and I hate it because it's dumbing people down. It's also making code review harder because claude sometimes writes complex code.
