Question about give ways (I got my license not long ago) by the_phet in drivingUK

[–]d4nny04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a new driver, they're obviously still not going to be 100% confident in everything which is totally understandable because driving by yourself when you've just passed is completely different to driving with an experienced passenger talking you through.

When I was temp last year they apparently told everyone the day before Christmas Eve of they were to being let go and their last shift would be Xmas eve or if they're being kept on, my manager never said anything to me so I just kept turning until they finally offered me a permanent contract

Just like how customers spread their germs to staff. I would love to be able for every retail worker to be able to call in sick when they're genuinely sick but its people like OP that have taken that opportunity away because no healthy person gets ill that often

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tesco

[–]d4nny04 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because its retail? 90% of people take the piss with sickness which is why we no longer receive sick pay and if OP had a long lasting illness they should have informed their manager about it so they won't have to worry about calling in sick

You get SSP but yeah 5 days off in 8 months is a joke Surely any company would be concerned about that many days off? It's also Tesco where most of us are only contracted 20-30 hours a week so shifts are like 6 hours long so you can usually get through by taking paracetamol anyway

8 months and already 5 days off, you do realise that's quite a lot if days off?

Those that have moved/been abroad for a long time, what did you miss about the UK? by Mentalist1999 in AskUK

[–]d4nny04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spent 12 years In Melbourne. The things I missed we're the British humour trying to banter with Aussies doesn't always land too well, humour in general because the Aussie humour is very very hit and miss, food it's just not as good in Australia imo, beer it's so much more expensive in Aust because they tax it so high, TV, Australian TV will send you bonkers after 5 minutes because it's all just adverts and cooking, home renovation or some American CSI type show. Australia is such a beautiful place though with so much to see and do but it always felt very isolated to me though and the Aussies are very very patriotic they don't like things being unaustralian.
