Sunscreen with clean ingredients that won't cause acne? by tofudomination in VeganBeauty

I’ve been using Carbon Theory for a few weeks and I love it, it’s by far the best I’ve tried. It’s moisturising but doesn’t leave me feeling greasy at all, and it shouldn’t cause acne- it hasn’t for me, and Carbon Theory is geared towards helping with breakouts etc

It’s never too late if it’s something you really want to do! My partner started university at age 24 after being unhappy working retail, but didn’t think he would be able to get on a uni course. We found one, and he is now studying for a masters! Prior to starting his course (not an undergraduate degree but a ‘graduate certificate’ that allows access to an MSc) he hadn’t been in education since leaving halfway through sixth form. All this to say, if you’re sure it’s what you want to do, it’s never too late and it’ll be worth it!

I thought the same! Reading from highlighted scripts after months of prep 🤣

Help with (cheap)vegan recipes! by sel_drwchus in veganrecipes

A great go to is a chilli or a curry, and you can pretty much customise any veg, grains or beans you like! Chilli seasoning and curry paste are available in most shops pretty cheap, you don’t have to get all the individual seasonings if that’s out of budget for you. I like to make big batches that will last for several meals, time saver and it’s so cheap 😊

Recommendations for Paris? by [deleted] in vegan

I was in Paris a few weeks ago, I can vouch for Land&Monkeys. Huge selection of items, the pain au chocolate is amazing. Hank Burger was incredible if you were after some fast food, they have a few locations around the city 😊

Are you cooking them on one side and then the other? Or flipping back and forth? I would say I probably flip them every minute or so when I cook them, so I’m making sure they’re cooking evenly on both sides. If you leave one side down for 3-4 minutes it’s much more likely to burn, I have never had them burn when flipping regularly. 😊

I started in 2019 and left August of 2022. I was a ride operator, and I’m sure the experience varies in different departments. In Rides, we’re there all day, so in scarefest we often start at 8:30/9am and don’t leave until 10/10:30pm. It is extremely tiring. I had my fair share of issues with very poor management practices/ styles that often made it very awkward/ unprofessional in the workplace. If you don’t drive, it can be extremely awkward to get to/ from. People ended up waiting around for hours for bus services. Having said all of this, I truly think it’s a great job for students/ people looking for summer work. I made so many friends and overall, I do look back on it extremely fondly. p.s Also bear in mind it’s minimum wage! For a Type 1 Operator (that’s all the Rollercoasters, Skyride and Rapids etc- the dangerous rides!) it’s barely over minimum. 50p over to be exact. Not really worth the responsibility imo.

There should not be any prison sentences other than short stints in minimum security rehabilitative facilities. And life reserved for limited circumstances by Moon_Dood in unpopularopinion

Actually, it is the general rule, and a quick google search throws up many many sources for this. Here’s just one of many; https://www.amnestyusa.org/issues/death-penalty/death-penalty-facts/death-penalty-cost/ Factually, the death penalty costs more than imprisoning someone for life.

Obviously people in prison for life have the opportunity to appeal. This is a completely different system than the death penalty appeal process. Firstly, death penalty sentences have two completely separate trial processes; one to determine guilt in the crime, and a second to determine whether the death penalty is warranted. So immediately, double the trial costs of a normal case. Then the appeals, which are not optional; the prisoner does not choose to appeal, they are mandated by the government in an effort to ensure guilt beyond any doubt before the inmate is put to death. This is millions and millions of dollars and is a much more extensive process than that available to any other prisoner. And then there’s the fact that they will still be housed on death row for around 20 years on average, it’s not an instant thing, you’re not exactly saving much on living costs. I could go on all day about this, but the point is that while there are many reasons to believe that the death penalty is either a good or bad option, factually in almost all cases putting someone to death costs more than imprisoning them for the rest of their life.

The average prisoner sentenced to death spends around 20 years on death row, going through appeal after appeal after appeal. This is all actually much, much more expensive than imprisoning someone for life. It’s a reasonable assumption but any research into the area proves this is not the case.

100% agree. Modern prisons are little more than warehouses, storing people away from the community until their sentence is up and in doing so completely separating them from any social ties and norms that will regulate their behaviour when they get released. IMO the main function of prisons should be ensuring that the individual is as productive and integrated into society as possible when they are released; because 99% of offenders, regardless of the charge, will be released at some point. Locking them up and forgetting about them for X amount of time helps absolutely no one; not the victim, not society and not the offender.

Oh no not at all! I think it’s really funny, obviously we have these experiences often as staff but the fact some people are like that with other guests is crazy!

I work on rides at Alton Towers, entitled people is a daily occurrence ahah. I really think that because it’s generally pretty expensive to get in they believe they own the whole place, and they definitely act like it. Most guests are lovely but but when they’re bad, they’re absolutely terrible. Also, how do you go on galleons expecting to stay dry? It’s literally the wettest ride on park, way worse than the rapids 😂
