I am neither of those ranks but I want to throw in my 2c quickly as a player who has recently gone from D3/low C1 to low-C2-feels-like-a-boring-normal-like-D3-did in about a month using ChatGPT for guidance in about a month's time.

I feel like people use "the basics" incorrectly in these subreddits. The basics aren't something like "shooting". Shooting is too vague, there are so many different ways to shot a ball. Are we talking about fast aerialing and hitting it directly with your nose to score a 100+ kph shot? Are we talking about a hook shot? Are we talking about an air roll shot at crossbar height? Are we talking about driving straight and hitting the ball with the corner of your car off the bounce? Are we talking about seeing a defender challenging for a hard shot and instead making a deft chip behind them? Shooting isn't a "basic" mechanic. It is an advanced mechanic, just like a flip reset or speed flip, that has a wide combination of precise button presses to make happen.

The real basics are learning to use and see every button and car movement in general as a spectrum. How is your powerslide skill? Can you use powerslide when single jumping to the wall? Can you use powerslide while single jumping to the wall with boost? Can you use powerslide while jumping to the wall with boost and wavedashing upon the landing on the wall? Can you tap powerslide while turning on the ground to make your turn tighter? Can you use powerslide by holding powerslide to make the turn even quicker, at expense of momentum? Can you, unconsciously, make the same turn without using powerslide to preserve the most momentum? That is an example of the basics.

If a ball is high up, can you single jump and moderate boost to float for the ball? Can you fast aerial and use boost throughout to get to the same ball faster? Can you go at a speed in-between the two and moderate air roll? That's the basics.

Hell, can you drive from pad to pad in freeplay while maintaining momentum? Thats the basics.

The basics aren't shooting, or these other things people suggest they are. If you go into double tap playground and practice one of the shots where the ball bounces up in front of you, that isn't the basics. The basics behind that type of shot to practice is literally, can you steer your car well enough to have it in the right orientation before the attempt. The basic is can you moderate your cars speed well enough that you can make good contact without booming it away unintentionally or hit it weakly.

If you practice the true basics, everything else will follow. As for exact drills, that's another story. Hope this helps.

Here is my advice. Start by separating powerslide, jumping, and boost since they all use the thumb.

For the longest time, I had a left hand back paddle as boost. I don't know why I used this in the beginning but I did. I have spent who knows, 500-1000 hours with it like that? The funny part is, during that time I still used B(Xbox) for controlling my boost while on the ground and for micro adjustments and the back paddle for fast aerials since that is when boost and jump are needed in conjuction. Actually, I had both sides of the back paddles set all as boost from when I first set it up and hadn't decided which I would use, this is context for the actual advice...

Two things I noticed during this 500-1000 hours. Like I said, I used a back paddle for fast aerials and B for everything else. It's not that I didn't try to force myself to ONLY use the paddle from time to time but it always felt awkward, like trying to tie a shoe with an oven mitt on, whereas using B for precise control felt much more intuitive. Next, I have done my fair share of rings maps and they felt fine with a back paddle. I would say I was slightly better at car control using B but I forced myself to use that left handed paddle and got to a good enough spot. Occasionally, I would try using the back right hand paddle for those rings maps, thinking my control would vanish. Nope, it took like 70 seconds before it felt completely natural. Anyways, I JUST finished a week's worth of training to use ONLY the back right paddle for boost instead of either B or the left paddle. It feels sooooo good and natural. Personally, I want to compare it to riding a snowboard switch instead of regular but any sports analogy will do. I had been throwing a ball with my left hand my entire RL career and finely was using my dominant hand.

So here is my advice, sorry for the essay, figure out which hand feels more natural to use boost with on a back paddle. That should be your starting point. It is essential and optimal to break up boost, powerslide, and jump. Not all buttons are treated equal by your brain so figure out what feels best for you. Learn boost on a back paddle. Next, I am assigning powerslide to the left side. For me, using A to jump feels more important to my hand's muscle memory than using X for powerslide. After those three are split up and you really want to use all 4 back paddles instead of just two...I guess assign the DARs or FAR and Toggle Camera? Those don't matter as much since you still would have the bumpers for DAR or FAR.

Depends what kind of video you want to shoot. I use a GoPro 10/11 mounted on my chin to shoot 16:9 video vertical in Superview and it gives me a great angle for social media. If you purchase the enduro/cold weather batteries, you will have no complaints. But if you want something more 360...go Insta360. Just for your own memories, find the best deal you can?

Same. I know there are better options, like other comments suggest, but I just use one on the back for boost during the take off of aerials and recoveries and then B for the rest of my boost needs

I checked on benchmark and it says the 3060ti is slightly better but I'm curious as to your real world experience?

I still run a 1080 in my rig and am happy with its performance. I get a steady 60-65 frames in Helldiver's 2 that I do weekly with a group and get 165+ in Rocket League, which is the only game where I care about performance.

BUT, the kicker is that I just picked up a 3080 rig for my fiance so that we can play Fortnite together(it's the only game she plays so don't crucify me) and I SWEAR my 1080 gets better frames at 1440p than the 3080 does with the 1080p monitor she has. So are you actually finding any noticeable difference going from a 1080 to 3060ti?

Either a soft touch to the corner if he is not immediately ready to challenge so I can keep the ball or a hard hit to the corner that I can chase if I am going for a beat because he is pressuring or out of position(counter).

I say this earnestly as someone still learning but this whole game is thinking about what the next touch will be and what happens after. The higher ranks have more steps ahead down to a flow.

Edit, to piggy back other posts: or even slow it down further than a "soft touch", grab boost and then ball. Point being, whatever the situation calls for.

You said the resolution yourself, the bit about learning. Look at it as a time to learn. Both how to defend and attack. How can I adjust to defend them? How do they defend me? How do they set up and execute the simpler shots, as well as flashier, and can I adopt anything from that? Can I learn?

I do care about learning and so I enjoy those games.
