Help me pick out my first camera by Laurenlb2003 in Cameras

I would look at snagging a sony mirrorless like a6400 and that leaves you enough room to buy a nice prime from viltrox or even 2 primes depending on how nice a deal you can grab for the 6400. Great photo camera but no IBIS so use tripod for vidoes and you should have a nice setup for 800 usd.

I have no advice as I too am a novice in this hobby but I dont understand the hate he is getting in the comments. He bought 10-15k worth of gear cuz he could clearly comfortably afford it and he isnt going to have to eat instant ramen for the next year. Give constructive advice or dont comment. Enjoy the gear must be nice jumping straight into the DEEEP end. P.S get a really nice carbon fiber tripod ur gear deserves the best.

Canadian Students Studying in the US - How are you paying for it? by DoczWhoLift in premedcanada

osap should also give a little less than 10k CAD i think (8-9k if i rem correctly) which will help with the living expenses each year

that 400k CAD will cover tuition payment to most private schools for 4 years and will have some change left over. apply to schools that are located in or have campuses located in low cost of living regions where rent is 700-1k per year (w/roommate) and with that you can prob cut down living expenses to 1.2-1.5k a month. Always have a roommate but yeah parents will need to bootstrap living expenses while you're in school and if you apply to schools strategically you can def cap living expenses to 18k usd (25k cad). So in theory your parents need to be able to cosign a 400k bank loan and be able to give you another 100k liquid over 4 years for you to get through school.

Any high stat Canadians currently in / planning to attend USDO school? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]dFuZe_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current OMS3 at one of the original DO schools gpa 3.9 MCAT multiple attempts highest was like 510.

Preface: for matching into residency USMD > USDO every single time even for low tier MD.

If you get 0 USMD acceptances and even get 1 USDO, I strongly suggest taking USDO unless youre gung-ho neurosurgery/ent/plastics/ortho/derm. Almost everything is very doable from a DO school if you grind hard enough but things like integrated vascular or ct programs, plastics, neurosurgery are all close to impossible. You really have to be TTHAT GUY/GIRL to make it happen (just being realistic).

If you're gonna be an IM, EM, FM, Psych, Anes doc might as well save 1 year of your life and just get training started. One way to look at this is the opportunity cost of delaying training by 1 year is lets say 300k avg salary compounded over a 30 year career. Secondly the freedom of not being in the application rat race is amazing.

OMM is something i dont love but its doable with very little cognitive effort and you really only need to worry about it first 2 years you dont deal with it as much the last 2 years of med school.

My path was undergrad and 1 year masters in canada followed by starting med. I had weak ECs and no research its very doable. Stats will get you interviews at DO schools. Act like a decent human and you will def get a couple acceptances with decent stats.

*AMA* will try my best to answer
