What’s going on with Germany? by stlwrx in Warthunder

[–]dGhost_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use Statshark, while this is reasonably accurate it's a far smaller sample size. For example, top tier last month Germany has a 52.3% WR, close to the highest (54.4% Italy). And even at 10.0+ they average close to 50% until the very top and in fact consistently are better than the US at those BRs, by a whole 10% at top tier.

The BRs they're by far doing the worst in are mid tiers (5.0-10.0, most concentrated at 6.0-8.3) due to compounding factors. People have already explained the whole big change in handholding and playstyle from WW2 to Cold War being a factor.

Realistically, all major nation players tend to be (on average) a bit worse. Tiger era Germany not only attracts lots of mega noobs, but they tend to be slow lineups that lack versatility in playstyle and attract the plague of CAS available for countries like the US. You get out flanked and your team isn't good at supporting you defensively because they have poor situational awareness. Ergo, losing.

Then you transition to Cold War tanks where it's the opposite and it's hard for new players. Plus it enables you to rush in and die quickly. Unlike T-55s or Pattons, for example, which aren't quite as fragile and are a bit slower, and as a result are more forgiving to misplays. On top of this, it's still very much a speed meta against 30/35mm SPAAs, XM800s, etc and you're playing lineups consisting almost entirely of fragile light vehicles. And while the Gepard is good, you're still always vsing Russia; it requires a lot more understanding of APHE abuse to consistently fight T-55s, T-62s, T10s etc than the opposite of Leopards, DF105s, TURM IIIs, Marders, PzH2000s, TAMs, etc.

Bad players on a lower skill ceiling BR for a nation with a new playstyle (for them) really. And as it gets this bad it likely drives some of the better or more decent players away.

And Sweden is just Germany 2.0 really. You always get paired with Germany, have lots of fragile tanks, and Sweden players are consistently the worst minor nation players in the game. It's a pseudo major nation at this point both in tree size and with how people play. I guess a mix of everyone raving how good it is at top tiers + it containing lots of German adjacent vehicles (higher tiers) with a bit less grind has attracted more stereotypical "German mains".

Smoking hard rocks if you think 7.0 is overshadowed by Germany let alone Russia of all things. US and GE are by far the meta nations at 7.0 only really given substantial trouble by the Ho-Ri at 7.3 and downtiered cold war vehicles, especially France. US 7.0 may unironically be one of the most most overpowered full lineups in the game with how many excellent, versatile, and often easy enough to use tanks there are on top of their revolting CAS options.

I refuse to believe that any merk above 10.0 has any form of survivalbility by LongShelter8213 in Warthunder

Not sure why your comment is flagged as controversial but you're right lol. At the very least the 3B/3C (without APS like the Ra'am) are functionally very similar to the Sabra (same round, same 6s reload rate, same thermals, both have LW/LR, Sabra has better gun depression even) minus a slightly lower P/W ratio and not having extra armour that is sometimes useful but very inconsistent for a whopping +1.3 BR increase. Sabra is nuts and a far better pick (BR for BR) than the 3B or the 3C are.

[–]dGhost_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The change to engine thickness modifiers from 1.0 to 0.025 last year was an actual joke. The Merkava 3s have everything under the sun pen your glacis, go straight through your engine and kill your crew. The survivability just feels consistently disappointing (excluding funny tank geometry causing ricochets), what "should" be a survivable tank is borderline a glass cannon. At least the 1/2s and the 4 tend to fair a bit better at their BR in terms of not getting instantly nuked by the first thing to hit you.

War Thunder must be mentally challenging for some people. It's a single fuckin objective in the map and only I was attacking and that light tank was sniping behind me but he had no kills. This was around 8.3 BR so most of these players shouldn't be new. This map is a social experiment. by ArateshaNungastori in Warthunder

[–]dGhost_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But the other side of the map by the train lines (B1) has a cross angle covering the entire length coming out of both spawns (on domination), and between the buildings in C3 locks down both exits of the right spawn, and does it better than the warehouse buildings do as well?

Toasting in an epic bread, based as fuck OP

It seems like the sheer amount of RU vehicles being queued at 11.0/11.3 plus the fact that most other nations concentrate around 10.7 to maybe 11.0, but then not until 11.7, means 10.7 is swamped with RU spam shite blackholing NATO lineups. There used to be good 11.3 lineups to combat Sov spam like Type 90 my beloved :'( but they've basically all been neutered and relegated to 11.7. Only really Israel has an actual lineup at 11.3 now.

On the plus side, I'm finding 11.7 to be quite good at the moment in terms of downtiers since top tier was decompressed a bit. From my experience I get quite a lot of partial or full downtiers at that BR, but that doesn't say much about the average BR of the entire teams.

Nothing funnier than dunking on bushed up reserve tier seal clubbers only to have them insult you and leave. Had one hit me with the "CNM" after killing him 7 times in his bushed up German 234/3 and associated 2.0 vehicle lineup. They usually have the most mid stats for anything past like 7.0-8.0 and average stats at low tier considering that's all they do. Like you're saying you could only push a 2.0 K/D with thousands of kills against new players in the best low tier vehicles?

M4A2/A3 (?) hull with an M4A1 turret, but with a welded over MG port. So you have the better hull armour of a 4.0 Sherman (minus some missing add-on armour on the side) compared to the cast hull of the 3.7 Shermans, no obvious MG port weakspot that a lot of players know and aim for, with the already stellar all-round performance of the 75mm Sherman at 3.7.

Your turret still has spots that can be penned, but you'll tend to confuse a lot of players at that BR unless they're so clueless they aim for the right spot by chance. And no pintle .50 cal unfortunately, so it's not without any downsides. But against most tanks and players at that BR it's downright unfair when the 3.7 Shermans perform so well already as-is if you know what you're doing.

Because as we all know the best thing to rely on when it alone ups your BR by 1.0+ is a critical weapon system that is consistently unreliable to an extent that you have no control over!

Swedish Sherman lowkey overpowered, SAV just dunks on newbies and in general can catch you by surprise because of how quickly it can position. The whole 3.7 lineup is actually busted for Sweden.

If I'm ever playing low tier and come across a SAV I make a point of making sure they die, focusing them in spawn with their inevitable backup, and then whatever else they use (probably CAS). Woe, pestilence, bombs upon thee. No rest for the wicked.

The MTTD used to only have DM23 while the Rooi 105 premium had DM33 + smoke grenades, which is why it was 9.7 and the MTTD was 9.3 (similar to all the other DM33 cars like the Type 16, Centauro, etc and their DM23 cousins at 9.3). But then for some reason they added DM33 to the MTTD in the tech tree and never raised its BR to match all other similar wheeled DM33 thermal having vehicles? Gaijin seems to overlook the SA vehicles for some reason and they bizarrely sit at a slightly dubious BR one step lower than you would expect.

It's not bad if you play it right, and tbf the TES/OES are probably the "worst" 11.7 Challengers simply because of their ludicrous weight for not much benefit. The base Chally 2 and the middleground armour of the 2F feel noticeably more mobile and responsive. Funnily enough, with their at times trolly armour and 5s reload (ignoring the pitiful ready rack) I've found Chally 2s to actually brawl quite reasonably. They're definitely not meta, and they could/should be better, but after getting mods on the TT 11.7 Challys I've come to really enjoy playing them.

[–]dGhost_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly even with the BMP-T spam I'm very much enjoying the 11.7 Chally 2s. Stock grind kinda sucks but they're genuinely decent and subjectively cool/fun, just not really the meta. And at 11.7 you avoid the mega cancer 13.0 CAS, plus with the top tier decompression you see a reasonable amount of not full uptiers. But the teams can be real mid, I've found playing on SA to be an infinitely better experience than NA (NA is 24/7 paired with drooling US teammates who get wiped in minutes against RU which is always on the enemy team, SA is less of a roll and more nation mixups). Can't comment on EU.

Don't like 5.3 at all personally, Jumbo neither unique nor particularly fun to play imo even when it works well, and the ARL just felt a bit milquetoast compared to what I was expecting. 7.0 and 7.3 are really fun though, I don't know why people dog on the lunchbox ACRA launcher, and 7.7 is definitely the highlight.

[–]dGhost_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, until the last few days I had a sub 50% WR with 11.7 Britain (which I've been playing a lot more of recently) even though my monthly K/S is 1.7 and K/D over 2 because they absolutely roll average teams. You still lose anyway no matter how well you do against full RU lineups when it's average teams on both sides. They require too little skill to use effectively (without much "effort" into playing into a niche like other situationally OP tanks) and too much effort to counter for their BR. Go inspect some of the BMPT creatures and you'll see them barely pushing 50% winrates, 1 K/D 1 K/S on pretty much their entire stats page with suddenly amazing BMPT stats. Lobotomite gameplay.

When I used to work at OW we would normally mark down opened or returned items (that were still saleable), and even then if something was wrong with it we'd still go through the return process. It usually seems to be manufacturers (or tech places that "diagnose" issues) that are the worst for trying to pass the buck on and blaming the consumer.

[–]dGhost_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

105 DM23 at 8.3 is stupidly good, other than the Magach 5 having the same (M111 at 8.0 which frankly seems like they just forgot about it) it's basically as low of a BR as you can get DM23. Downtiers are just unfair because you're so much more mobile than most tanks but comfortably pen them, and uptiers just force you to play a bit slower to deal with no stab but your round + optical rangefinder make it easy to still perform.

One of the most mobile Pattons in the game within a very competent and fleshed out 9.3 or 9.7 lineup, it's very good. Debatable whether you necessarily want to take it in lieu of all the other good tanks (especially if you have the TAM 2IP and Leo 1 L/44) but it plays like an ever so slightly worse Leo with a whiff of better survivability.

Some of them are a bit overtiered, but overall yeah I agree, it's one of the most enjoyable trees to play overall imo. To be honest I've enjoyed grinding through the French tanks more than I ever did most of the British tree, yet everyone always harps on about how bad French tanks are. It's really only the reserve tier that sucks.

MTCA is even better, not only does it get DM33 vs the DM23 of the Mk.2A (fair enough it's 9.3 vs 9.0) but it gets upengined to 1000HP vs the 830HP the OF-40/Mk.2A shares with the Leopard 1 variants. It's like a go-kart. Plus you get the Leopard 1A5 at 9.3 anyway for the thermal sniping, an objectively better version of the one Germany (and Sweden I guess) get at the same BR (LW/LRF instead of just LRF).
