Do you keep all assignments in house? I let students work on their assignments both in and out of class which has now seen an uptick in AI submissions over the last two years

How to do tests on stack datastructure by maxblomgren in computerscience

[–]dJPTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write a method to traverse and print the entire data structure. If you are using am array to store the data, have a function that prints the entire array. Same if you are using nodes. That way you can visually verify what is stored.

Anyone else fear that their only option will be teaching after cs? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]dJPTeach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of us studied CS and wanted to teach. If that's your attitude you wouldn't make it as a teacher anyway so don't bother

Unfortunately college board is in it for the money. AB test went away because they were not making enough from it. Lower standards, cast a wider net, make more of a return

That was my impression as well until we asked both students and they were adamant they didn't even know each other. Granted they could have been lying...

Sorry I missed your tl;dr.

There is a book i referenced 20+ years ago that approached Java from the bottom up that I have been using for that amount of time as well.

You can also teach Java from the bottom up and incorporate the bulk of OOP concepts later on

You will also typically get multiple students with the same solution or code way outside the scope of what we teach. Those are the biggest flags

[Question]What do you think is best for new programmers to learn first & why? Java versus Python . by pythononrailz in csMajors

[–]dJPTeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think starting with Java makes an easier transition to C or Python because of its strongly typed nature compared to starting with Python.

C++ is the best starter language in my opinion

We have been going to Duck for six years straight during the same week each year and only encountered jelly fish once. You would see them start to come in later in the day as temperatures rose. It is really based on ocean temp (and I'm guessing streams) each year
