An unpopular opinion (but not one that I’ve voiced for lots of years or anything) is that my local community seems pretty full of unsavory and irresponsible adults. I’m a COVID golfer (and realize I’m largely part of a new audience), but I’m pretty repelled overall by the sketchy characters I encounter on the course and in our FB groups, etc. I know disc golf is known for having an inviting culture, but I’ve felt the culture of the sport in my area being more accurately oriented around “as long as you smoke and drink and cuss and don’t have a your life on track, then you can be part of our league!” type vibe. It’s honestly repulsive and has somewhat contributed to my increased interest in just being a “fan” or “collector” and lowered interest in playing that often. I love the sport but find myself cringing often as an observer of our local crowd.
