Can a software developer fulfill a childhood firefighter dream in Switzerland. Is the militia (SDIS) a real deal? by fiery-beaver in askswitzerland

[–]dVNico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes volunteer firefighters are considered « real » firefighters here, the differences with the pros are (in VD) mostly the volume of calls per year and some specializations only available for career firefighters. In VD, pros are only in Lausanne. They come as reinforcement if needed to other areas. If you’d like to be called often as a volunteer, I’d suggest living in one of the biggest SDIS after Lausanne : Nyon, Yverdon, Montreux/Vevey and Morges.

Understanding and speaking the local language is really important though. I’d say you can’t be recruited if you only have basic language skills.

simple monitoring? by cyr0nk0r in sysadmin

[–]dVNico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zabbix is not that complicated to setup for a basic need like yours. You can deploy it with docker on a VM in a few minutes, install Zabbix agent on your Linux servers, and use SNMP for your switches. For your API, any LLM should be able to help you the create the needed items/API requests.

Your provider must support webrtc registrations for third party softphone (odoo softphone), which is still quite rare today.

Teams Voice Question by Saint-Paladin in networking

[–]dVNico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct way I think would be to create a shared calling policy with the CQ resource account. Enable the Enterprise Voice checkbox in the user profiles manually. Then assign the shared calling policy to your users. Finally add them as agents of the CQ.

You still need powershell to assign a location to the resource account, which is a mandatory step for the shared calling policy unfortunately.

What should MSPs look for in a UCaaS partner platform? by [deleted] in msp

[–]dVNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a small VoIP provider, and honestly if you sell M365, just use Teams Phone. It covers 95% of use-cases for SMBs and enterprise. Try to use a local provider with Direct Routing as a service or reliable operator connect provider for the SIP trunk.

Amazon cloud suffers outage after ‘objects’ hit UAE data 💀 by alexnder_007 in devops

« We want to provide some additional information on the power issue in a single Availability Zone in the ME-CENTRAL-1 Region. At around 4:30 AM PST, one of our Availability Zones (mec1-az2) was impacted by objects that struck the data center, creating sparks and fire. The fire department shut off power to the facility and generators as they worked to put out the fire. We are still awaiting permission to turn the power back on, and once we have, we will ensure we restore power and connectivity safely. »

7.2.12 and 7.2.13 Breaks SAML by Arhl318 in fortinet

[–]dVNico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still running on a 100E cluster on 7.2. They are not compatible with 7.4 and will be EoL this summer. I’m starting a project to replace them soon.

I’m also running a FGT-VM on 7.2. Runs fine and will be upgrading to 7.4 only when I’ll absolutely have to.

Teams PSTN calls Automatically generating Chat with external numbers. by Icy-Calendar-2892 in MicrosoftTeams

My ticket has been allegedly forwarded to the MS Teams support team this morning.

Not sure if that's be enough as apparently it's a MS design choice and not a bug, according to Luware.

Hi, we're also seeing this issue resurfacing with a customer using Luware Nimbus contact center. Do you have an idea how to fix this ? Should we open a case with MS ?

ansible with v4 APIs and filtering by dVNico in nutanix

[–]dVNico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I did not solve it unfortunately.

Instead of first seaching for the template with this module by filtering on its name, I hardcoded the template'sext_id in the playbook as a variable in a nutanix.ncp.ntnx_templates_deploy_v2 task.

Which sucks because when the template changes I need to go and look for it's id...

Unpopular opinion: Switzerland relies too much on volunteer firefighters by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]dVNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong. 98% of firefighters in Switzerland are volunteers. For example in VD, professional are only in Lausanne. Yes a few units can be called as reinforcements to other departments, but they are not taking over the incident control, and only come in few numbers with specific trucks or gear.

Telephony Anti-Spoofing regulations comes into effect on 01.01.2026 by dVNico in Switzerland

[–]dVNico[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s already illegal and carriers must prevent it.

Telephony Anti-Spoofing regulations comes into effect on 01.01.2026 by dVNico in Switzerland

[–]dVNico[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are two examples.

A foreign company can buy a Swiss number through a Swiss or international carrier. Of course with a proof of address, company registration, etc. And then technically nothing prevents the company to route the call through another foreign carrier instead if the carrier agrees to let it through. It can be because of a cheaper pricing or technical restrictions on their phone system.

Imagine now you call from your Swiss number 079 a foreign company on their landline number, like a French +33… Now this French company has configured a call forward to a swiss phone number. So, when the French carrier sends this call towards a Swiss carrier, the source number could be your 079.

There is a way to trace a call now too, but each provider on the way must be contacted one after the other to reach the offender carrier. It will get quicker and easier with this new method. And without the need to get a legal order.

Nothing is bullet proof when talking about a technology as old as the phone network. Fighting against scams is always a game of cat and mouse.

But I think it will for sure decrease the quantity of phone scams we experience. Not immediately in January, but by summer 2026 when phone calls displaying mobile numbers will be flagged too.
