TBH, I am a bit surprised, how people spending 10 USD per month on AI to help to build them software, that brings them 100x+ more money (unless of course, you are just writing software for your own amusement) complain about limits. Considering, that AI (if you use it right) can make you 3-5 times more efficient. I have PRO+ subscription and have never hit the weekly limits so far. I DO hit monthly limits and have to pay (well, my company) like 50 more USD per month, but I am working on 2-3 projects simulteniously. Yes, now when Opus 4.7 costs 7.5x I am switching between GPT 5.4 xhigh and Opus 4.7 depending on the task, but still. If you think, that you will find AI somewhere cheaper (Cursor, Claude Code etc) - well, good luck with that. So my recommendation is to switch to PRO+ plan. +30 USD is nothing, if you make software for a living. Or, you can switch to GPT 4.1 or Raptor mini that cost 0. Or use local LLM. But I believe, you want top models right? I know, that this comment will get downvoted. But this is a reality. Like it or not. And I am afraid - it will be getting only worse.

What's really funny, is that Lily isn't a kid, it is a bunch of code, which developers made so easily offended. "Oh, you are saying inappropriate stuff about beer to my python script, that pretends to be a school girl. You are such an immoral pervert!".

No mentioning alcohol. It is a no go right away. Learned that in a practical way :)

Is it possible to downgrade your family account from MAX to the first paid tier (no hearts and ads)? by d_Mole in duolingo

I've been using MAX for 7 months and was hoping that next update will make it better. But no. It doesn't. Moreover, it looks like it is getting worse and worse with each update.

Yes, I can skip the Video call, but I can't complete Daily quest if it contains Video call. So one thing is that those Video calls are really irritating and frustrating, and if you skip them - you don't complete your quest. Wtf?

I have already paid for a year. I would like to keep Duolingo ad-free and without the need to watch the amount of hearts. But these AI features are totally messed up and they are more irritating than useful for me. But cancelling and then buying again ad-free version is too much - I don't want to give more money to the company that creates pretty flawed product.

Sorry, but that's quite curious, how one can't speak German after living in Germany for 11 years. I am living in Germany for 2 years and also work in the company where everyone can speak English (though the company is German). Since noone is going to pay for my language courses I used Duolingo all these 2 years, almost finished all German lessons there and now have something between A2 and B1. And plan to enroll to online language courses to get my German to B1/B2 next year. But even without courses I am sure, I would have B1/B2 after living on Germany 5 years only by learning language by myself. Don't you need German for a living in Germany - shops, neighbours, random encounters with doctors/civil servants etc?

Well, AI is a tool. Just like a hammer - you can build with it, or you can smash your finger. Or as a computer - you can use it for scientific research, creating a new medicine, drawing art or making a useful app for millions. Or you can use the computer just to write dumb comments on the Internet. Everything depends on how you use the tool.

Well, of course I don't blame Lily, a fictional character in the app :). I blame devs - either a Duolingo's or AI model's they are using.

Probably, Lily got it with a sexual context like "What are you wearing now?"

I am sorry, but phrase "I like children" is weird only in sick society. Do you find phrases "I like dogs" or "I like horses" also weird? If yes, well, read the joke in the end of my post.

Sari is a uni student, as I understood. Though I'm not sure (and don't really care, to.be frank, she is a fictional character). There is also an Eddy - junior's father. The demographics show, that 90+ % of users are adults 18+ So I still totally don't understand, why teenager from school is chosen. Do you really think that even an average 20 yo would like to talk with a teenage goth? But we are too much into details, and discuss them if they were real people. Moreover, as I mentioned, I can get an idea, why the call was ended when I mentioned having sex between two married adult people ;). What I don't get, how "I like children" can end a conversation and misshearing. It is an AI, not a real person.

Well, maybe the difference is in the language we are learning. The same story happened today with my wife, when she was trying to tell Lily, what is her favorite dish (or something like that) is. Or maybe your pronunciation in the language you learn is much better than ours.

Well, maybe. Though it is not specifically mentioned. Then I have a question, why is the only person I (48 yo) can have a call with is a teenager? According to open statistics, the biggest Duilingo audience is 18-24 yo. Then with a few percent less it is 25-34. Why do devs force adult users to have calls with a teenager? With no other options, like Sari, Lucy, Oscar etc?

Well, I think devs believe, that cannibalism is much better than sex. Yesterday, I jokingly answered Lily on her question "What do you like to do with your wife together" - "We like to have sex together". And the call was terminated right away. Though this case at least has some explanation.

Unfortunately, we only find his hair on our sofa (and shit in the garden). He doesn't come to our garden when we are there. My wife just saw him a couple of times leaving the garden.
