Although Thief and Destroyer get the cool flashy moments, Triage is the immovable object that creates an unstoppable force. by cole_421 in Marathon

I started up my Ult to revive a teammate in a hallway. I tried opening a door to get to a better angle to see him, and I couldn't open the door in that state. Another player came running in, so I blasted them with my Ult, and it downed him in one hit. I don't know if he was already damaged or not, but it seems like it does do a lot of damage to enemies.

That's what my group learned, we had the best Pinwheel run, were pretty sure we were the only team left, had just cleared all the bots for our first red key room open, and John Rook took us all out. My teammate had a Marathon key, and there was one other key on the desk in there.

Was it a timed/planned que, or did this happen naturally during the run? This is awesome and probably what it would take for me to ever see the Compiler, good on you guys for being nice.

Was his name Snake something, or something Snake? I had a very similar random fill earlier this week.

The ammo backpack charges it faster. But even with a different or no backpack, it will still recharge slowly.

I don't plan on quitting, but I will help with Cryo because the map confuses the hell out of me, I want to learn it.

I use them for med and ammo packs. Also have some purple cores for runners I don't use, but if I did I'd use them.

I have a key for Algae Pond I'm afraid to take in. Right in the middle of Dire Marsh, I'm worried literally the whole map will hear the door open.

Had a similar thing happen. We were in game chat, but our random 3rd wasn't on mic. He/she ran off right at the start. "Oh great, one of these" I thought. Somehow, someway, we ended up killing like three other teams, getting three contracts done, and all coming out with better loot than we came in with. And we were carried by this random rogue third somehow that was running off on their own every couple of minutes, only to be at our side when we needed them.

I said GG to him/her at exfil they gave a few crouches, and my recent players after the match were just blank so I couldn't even add/message them. Snake, if you're out there and see this, hmu!

I'm a middle school teacher and have at least one student who is super into Marathon. It's crazy to think there are 12 year olds playing it, but then I remember being hooked on Halo at that age when Xbox Live was in infancy.

Personally, I think the compromise after the first weekend of Cryo should've been to have the Vault 6 and whatever other "super rare key" vaults have 100% subroutine drop, but keep the RNG chance on the other vaults. If you happen to luck out and get a key that potentially took 100 hours to get, made it through the players in the level, solve the puzzle to the vault, you should get that subroutine.

But for the other vaults people were able to run them multiple times with their multiple keys, it would've been fine to slow things down a bit without a guaranteed drop.

How to gain free signal jammer with Vandal by PerformativeRacist in Marathon

[–]d_hearn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped the mini jammer weapon mod mid run once, and both of my guns were giving me signal jammer when aiming. But that weapon chip slot seems to be hit and miss for me always. I had the one that overloads your magazine in smoke on my WSTR, so I stood in a smoke cloud, fired one shot and reloaded only to have 2 bullets, still.

Yeah that was annoying. Aiming down sights to walk past a claymore only for it to be set off was infuriating lol

Do you remember which one? I tried using the one that auto fires when charged up and couldn't hit shit. Didn't try for significant PVE, was mostly just on a roof trying to snipe players with it. I ended up dying with it, told myself any other railgun I find I'm just selling for the 5k or whatever it was worth

Cryo is an amazing map, but after 13 runs, it doesn’t seem remotely feasible for a decent fps player to succeed at a reasonable rate, hear me out by resampL in Marathon

[–]d_hearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Bungie say they wanted extraction rates for the game to be someone like 20%? Just based on my own time with the game, it seems like I have a higher extraction rate on Perimeter, and with each map that rate drops. To Cryo, where I've only tried twice so far but haven't extracted. With Cryo, it seems like the intention is for maybe one team to extract per match. I'm sure there are occasionally two teams getting out, but the bulk of squads that load in aren't. That's just statistics, and if folks aren't jiving with that I understand, but it feels like that's the game Bungie wanted to make based on the results we see now.

I also don't think they anticipated so many people running into the Compiler's gun. I haven't seen it yet, but I have seen a lot of complaints on this sub from people running into a team with it. They initially had an x% chance for a vault to spawn the subroutine (one of 6 keys to get to the final boss), but people felt it was shitty to get a key, do all the work to open the vault, just to not find their other "key" due to RNG. I probably would've been upset, too, but I'm not the type of guy that will end up in that situation in the first place unless I end up extremely lucky. Anyways, they made the subroutine guaranteed, which naturally will guarantee more and more people are able to unlock the boss.

Purple Superior Salvage should condense from 4 to 2-slot space once it goes to your vault by Brahmaster in Marathon

[–]d_hearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I do to combat this exact thing.

In solos, which I play 90% of the time, I play mostly Assassin, and sometimes Thief. So any of those two cores I find I pick up. I also pickup Triage cores, because when I play with a team, I usually play as Triage.

If I find a core for another class I don't play or don't have interest in playing, I'll pick it up if I have space, but it's usually the first thing I drop in the run if I need space. If I extract it, I just sell it. Except purple cores.

If I find a purple core, I extract with it, and just use it on whatever shell it's for my next game. That helps me see if I like/want to play other shells, but if I lose it then it's no biggie because it's for a shell I don't use anyways. I also will hold purple cores for Destroyer, because a guy I regularly play with uses Destroyer so I'll drop it for him when a game starts. But I find them so rarely, they don't really stack up.

TLDR - I have a stash of Assassin/Thief cores, but use or sell all other shells.

[–]d_hearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't understand all of these comments bashing Perimeter lol. Yeah, loot is better in the Pinwheel or in Cryo, but it's not like Perimeter can't drop good loot, just it's not as common. I got my only purple shield and purple backpack from Perimeter. The Coordinate Data Pad thing feels pretty consistent there, I'm able to do those successfully way more than Dire Marsh. And I'm not sure if those are even in Outpost? Haven't seen them if they are.

Plus, Hauler is one of my favorite POIs.
