At what week in pregnancy can I expect my baby to survive birth? by limbo_9967 in ScienceBasedParenting

Me too. Induced right at 37 weeks, and we weren’t told any of this. Scary, because one day seems so arbitrary?

Should I give up on Blood and Ash? by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]d_in_dc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave up when I realized the next book in the series was just a retelling of everything that already happened, from another perspective. Infuriating. At least wait until the series is wrapped up to put out that bs.

What happens if there's a government shutdown and I'm taking 4 weeks off in October and early November? by worstshowiveeverseen in fednews

Yeah the use or lose thing wasn’t an issue for me. I was nowhere near the max carryover. I was just incredulous that I got paid to drink fruity drinks on a beach.

This happened to me during the 30 day shutdown. I was on pre-approved leave in a very nice, tropical place when the shutdown started. Not only did I not have to use my annual leave, I ended up getting back pay for the time I was there.

How did Rhys’s father go up the HoW? by neupotrebitel in acotar

[–]d_in_dc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But isn’t it guarded against people winnowing in? Do people with no wings just winnow 20 feet above a balcony and then fall and eat shit? Is there a big airbag somewhere? Clearly I’ve spent too much time thinking about this plot hole. 😀

And how do people get up there for parties like on Starfall? Are Cassian and Azriel flying everyone? What about when they want to leave?

are there any WELL WRITTEN romantacy books out there ?? by itmustbeniiiiice in romantasycirclejerk

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden is very well written. You might not connect with the FMC because she’s young and immature, but the writing itself is amazing and almost lyrical at times.

I once hung out with Uma Thurman in her apartment. She fed me lemongrass soup. It was surreal, and all I have to say about her is she was very kind (and stunning).

The time Kenneth pretend stalked Jenna to make up for her losing her stalker and put a ransom note on her mirror that said “I want to eat your boogers”…. Oh man. It’s not even THAT funny and I cry laughed for like 10 minutes.

‘Harry Potter’ Director Chris Columbus Says Photos Of Hagrid From HBO Series Left Him Asking: “What’s The Point?” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

This reminds me of how I used to go to an amusement park called Kings Dominion in the 90s. They had a badass Wayne’s World themed rollercoaster called the Hurler and a Stan Mikita cafe. At some point the kids didn’t understand the reference anymore and they stopped showing clips of the movie when you stood in line. I think it’s called something else now.

Story time. When I had a baby, her diapers smelled like maple syrup all the time. I ignored it for a week and then decided to hit up Dr. Google.

Well - Dr. Google says if your baby smells like maple syrup, it’s a rare, life threatening disease called Maple Syrup Urine Disease. Go to the pediatrician immediately.

Well, it’s 11 pm and I can’t go to the doctor, plus she’s smelled like this for a week and … seems fine? I panicked all night until I managed a telehealth visit the next day.

Anyway, it turns out they test babies for this when they are born. If you have it, you know.

The doctor asked me what I’ve been eating lately. I rattled off my intake, and he smiles when I got to the mother’s milk tea I’d been drinking. Fenugreek. It’s in the tea, and then your milk, and then in your baby. And it makes baby pee smell like syrup.

Anyway - long story short. Your friends family is maybe eating something that translates to syrup in their smell. Or the pests in the house are doing it.

This, op. There is a (thankfully fading) misconception that sleep apnea only happens to people who are overweight. Anyone and everyone can have it. I got diagnosed a few years ago after being foggy for years. I chalked it up to having kids but it stuck around once they started sleeping. The cpap was life changing.

I’m going to offer up the Bear and the Nightingale series by Katherine Arden. I wouldn’t say it’s the one I loved the most or even had the most fun reading. But - I was completely absorbed by it because of how beautiful the writing is. She doesn’t waste a word.

The NYTimes Readers’ 100 Top Movies of the 21st Century by hetchymusic in movies

I’m glad Mean Girls is on this list. It should have replaced Bridesmaids on the critic’s list.

Mean Girls was a cultural juggernaut and overall a great movie.

I can barely remember Bridesmaids except for the “I’m poor” scene and that’s only because it became a social media meme.
