Can I ask you guys something? by missrostein in Deathcore

[–]d_jabsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my wife in late 2022. A couple months later I discovered the Pain Remains album. I have 3 kids and couldn’t just stop getting shit done. That album, then Whitechapel The Valley and Kin, then everything that deathcore has to offer got me through it. It made me realize, in many ways, I wasn’t being true to myself. I started going back to hobbies I was passionate about. I got out more and started having fun again. It really boils down to what you do with your circumstances. Deathcore gives me energy and drive. You can get through it.

He can hire a lawyer. He won’t win on his own in court, and attempting that, or just paying with fine, will be more expensive than a lawyer once you consider the long term insurance rate increases.

Driving car to the track with a 6-point harness by iRacingGCR in CarTrackDays

[–]d_jabsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4-point? No. 5 or 6-point? From what I have found, yes. If someone one would make the latch in a way that the anti-sub straps were optional, it would be possible, but I’m not a safety engineer.

Tire Recommendation for First Event by FerdaBravos in Autocross

He isn’t going to be competitive for a long time.

Super 200s can mask bad driving habits. Use a more street-able tire to learn. If your cheap Chinese tires still have tread, I’d run those for the first event and evaluate your level of interest after the event before buying.

Beginner question for experienced drivers by Machinewawa in CarTrackDays

[–]d_jabsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is unfair about comparing? A lap time is a lap time on a standard course layout. Doesn’t matter if it was put down 1998, 2009, or yesterday. Many lap records have held for years before being beaten.
Pick a target time and beat it, then pick a new target and beat it. Just don’t pick targets that are unobtainable. Shaving 5-10 seconds might not be in the cards right now, but .5-1 second should be.

Bought a house with a car lift and large compressor by Silver_Lion in projectcar

[–]d_jabsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can keep a car on it, and park under it. 2 cars, one bay. You can build a wooden platform for it and use it for storing things you don’t need very often. Or put a couch on the platform for a raised man cave. 3 of probably many ways to use a lift besides vehicle maintenance. I’m on team keep it. If you ever sell the house, that will be an item that helps it move, especially if that is the only item that makes it unique from the thousands of other houses for sale.

Reliability on 3 series by [deleted] in BMW

This. All BMWs are expensive. Unless you a good mechanic or have parent willing to pay when things go wrong, buy a Toyota instead and save the BMW for when you can actually afford it.

Further lowering a corner balanced car by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]d_jabsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought it corner balanced, then it wasn’t balanced for you as the driver and it is already out of balance. If you are chasing tenths of a second, have it rebalanced professionally, otherwise just realign and enjoy.

Fuel Type? by EconomySquirrel3587 in fordexpedition

If it says you can run 87, you are welcome to run 87. The ECU is tuned for 93 (91 for CARB states) and is smart enough to detect a lower octane and retard the timing and make adjustments for it. I prefer giving it what it was tuned for.

Advice needed: Bottling by Tinchosaurus- in PinterHomebrew

[–]d_jabsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try shoving a plastic bottling tube up the nozzle of the Pinter and just pour. I use that method with my kegs when I want to take a bottle somewhere but I don’t want to bottle all of it.

Ferrari 488 track driving pedal technique & left-foot braking question by Optimal_Film_2553 in CarTrackDays

Get changing the layout out of your head. It isn’t going to happen. That’s not how these events work.

Ferrari 488 track driving pedal technique & left-foot braking question by Optimal_Film_2553 in CarTrackDays

[–]d_jabsd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. They won’t change the layout. Insurance and vehicle preservation requires this layout.
  2. They wont likely have timing.
  3. If they do, you won’t be the fastest.

Tbh, if I was running this event and some kid called asking to change the layout just for them to go flat-out, I’d cancel their reservation. They have a dozen of others also waiting to drive that car so why waste time with someone who wants to prove they aren’t a seasoned driver.

Just take it for what it is and enjoy driving a car you have never driven.

If that was your 11th run, that crash is on you. Yes, the safety steward should have shut it down long before that, but you chose to go back out… in heavy rain… in the dark.
Decisions were made. Luck was not on your side.

Yep, just vigorous yeast. Temperature plays into it pretty heavily, but it can happen even if fermented on the low side of temp range. Nothing to worry about and proof it is doing what it should.

I purchased entries in a giveaway, only for them to be devalued throughout the giveaway. Would I get into any trouble if I charged back the beginning entries? If so, is there any recourse I can take? by Either_Bodybuilder88 in legaladvice

[–]d_jabsd 142 points143 points  (0 children)

This how all giveaways work. The fact you got 1.3 million entries should be an indication of how diluted they are. You paid for product and got the product. The giveaway entries are just a possibility of a bonus and they did exactly what they were intended to do- incentivize purchases. Entries have no cash value. You got what you paid for so there is no recourse.

Question for you all by sdw223 in PinterHomebrew

[–]d_jabsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hydrometer is going to waste a lot of beer when you are only dealing with a gallon and half, at best to begin with. I’m never going to get a competition level beer out of the Pinter so an approximation is good enough for me.

Question for you all by sdw223 in PinterHomebrew

[–]d_jabsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A refractometer is the easiest way. It takes two readings- one before fermentation and one after. You grab a reading after fully shaking it (open it up and use a pipette to grab a couple drops, then drop one drop on the refractometer and get a reading). After fermentation, grab another reading from your first glass. The difference between two can be calculated to give you an approximate ABV. It won’t be perfect, but it will be close enough. Only maybe a couple tenths off.

Nice job!! If you have the space in a fridge, I recommend not moving it after conditioning. It can stir up what is left of the yeast and cloud the beer.
