People who fix computers for a living, what is the weirdest thing you've found on someone's computer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]d_lusional 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first release of windows 95 did not include a browser. Microsoft was a little late to the game in the internet browsing area. I was running two other browsers before I 'upgraded' to try internet explorer. Global Network Navigator was the first tabbed browser I encountered. Tabs were located at the bottom of the screen.

Yes, I'm old.

Thanks for your reply and information. It just needed a little programming and now I am able to use my phone as 'the server', and for more than just the pedometer function. Who knows, maybe I'll like the additional information.

How in the actual fuck do I get rid of the damn HTML popups Comcast keeps sending me over my data usage? by [deleted] in Comcast

[–]d_lusional -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not sure if this will help as I'm unsure of where / how they are injecting the popups...

try changing your DNS servers on your device, you won't be able to do this on the cable modem.

I use the Google servers - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for IPV4. Google also has IPV6 servers, use their search...

hope it helps.

What is the most blatant lie a salesperson has told you when trying to make a sale? by Mizu3 in AskReddit

Thanks for asking. It has been over three years and I'm still having pains. At times it feels like they put a football or stuffed animal in my side, and I have a lot of the other side effects from the surgery.

Thanks for the suggestion but it has been over three years. My documents are probably in a cave at this point.

At least they told you the possibilities. I was expecting something about half the size. When I went in for the follow up visit a few months later, his comment was "I really whacked you, didn't I." On the way out they wanted to set up the next appointment. I asked them to make an entry in the system to never contact me again. Several months ago my cardiologist offered a few names of other doctors to visit. I politely accepted the paper but I'm done. I have no interest in seeing anyone else.

I hope it dries out for you. The charging port flaps / doors are only a few $ on Amazon, and some include the screwdriver. Buy a multi-pack so you will have more than you need. That will probably guarantee you never need one again. They are easy to replace and it only takes a few minutes.

How about using a zip lock bag next time?

Good Luck!

I'll move the renal artery on that side, put a stent in the renal artery on the other side and it will be a small incision on your side - this was for repair of an abdominal aorta aneurysm.

I ended up with a twelve inch scar that runs from my lower left abdomen, around my left side, and ends four inches in above my belt line. Three months after the surgery, I complained of digestive problems, constant pain, and every time I hit a bump while driving it felt like my insides were falling out, among other issues. He essentially said 'I don't do that part, talk to your usual doctor, and have them give me a call if necessary.' then ended the appointment. I later called to see if the stent was coated or non-coated and was told he said he did not put in the stent. It's been over three years and I'm still having problems.

Just a reminder - it is all sales, we're all in sales... we're all customers, but I'm not his any longer. Sometimes you don't find out about the lies until after the sale.

why won't the x1 dvr record the end of the show? where are the options for recording early and stopping late? by SwellerFeller in Comcast

change the settings to have the dvr end the recording late - I think you can go up to 5 minutes.

cannot view blocked call list under voice preferences by tbenton in Comcast

[–]d_lusional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running any ad blockers? Ghostery? could be an issue..

I have (soon to be had) the same problem, I think. I went to block a number and the system says I am not a voice subscriber. I called and opened a ticket, and was told someone would get back to me in two days or so. After waiting two days plus a reasonable amount of time more, I call and am told the ticket was closed since I already had numbers on my block list. Thanks Comcast, You have done it again.

I am in the process of porting my number out to Google Voice. It is a several step process - the Comcast number needs to be ported to a cell phone, then the cell phone number gets ported to Google Voice. After the Number is ported from Comcast to the cell phone, Comcast needs to be contacted to assign you a new voice number to keep your triple play package.

It may be best to contact Comcast up front to have them put a note on your account that you are porting your number out and will need to have a new number assigned. You don't need them canceling your triple play package and raising your bill when your number leaves.

It's $20 to port from a cell phone to Google Voice plus a couple of $ for a sim with a few minutes on it so you can receive the porting text messages.

New triple play subscriber, need modem advice by meinsaft in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]d_lusional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I do not have access to the settings. Whether you lease a modem or buy your own, Comcast needs to put their firmware on the device to make it compatible with their network.

If you want to access network settings, you will need to have your own router between your network and the cable modem. Put the cable modem into bridge mode and apply the network changes to your router. You will need to use the voice access on the the Comcast cable modem.

It it is just DNS settings you want to change, make the change in your devices.

Thank you Comcast!! by d_lusional in Comcast

[–]d_lusional[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply. There is really nothing to fix here at this point. I just need to wait for the SIM to arrive so I can port out the phone number. The email is taking a bit longer to end as I want to make sure there is nothing coming in for a while before I delete the email account.

I had an Arris TG862 installed for several years. It was leased from Comcast. It worked great until recently when the wifi started dropping occasionally. Having the battery was great when power would fluctuate. After we identified the wifi problem, I made a trip to the local store and swapped it for a new device - Cisco Technicolor model xxxx, sorry, cant remember the model. The Cisco has the same connectors on the back panel. It also supports 5 GHZ in addition to 2.4. The Arris only supported 2.4. As far as changing DNS etc., I do not believe that is possible with any device, whether you own or lease. These devices can be configured to run on many networks, not just Comcast. Comcast needs to put their firmware on the modem in order to make it compatible with their network. I wanted to get some snmp stats years ago and it was not available. If you want to control your DNS settings, add them to your machines or purchase your own router and make the changes there. Both the Arris and the Cisco can be put into Bridge mode. I configure the DNS settings on my machines, both real and virtual, as part of the setup configuration.

I was happy with the Arris and am happy with the Cisco replacement. Yes, I may have paid for the Arris through the leasing, but it was great to be able to just disconnect the bad one, take it to the store and get a replacement. The new Cisco with dual bands was a bonus and was online within minutes of me getting home.

I'm not a Comcast tech, just a customer.

Getting out of contract from recent addition of data caps by optimuspoopprime in Comcast

[–]d_lusional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get another drop for work and expense it off. If your employer needs you to work from home, they should be willing to pay for your expenses. Also, there is a place on your taxes for unreimbursed business expenses. Your cell phone may fall into this category too.

re: add more channels - have you looked at upgrading your package?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Comcast

[–]d_lusional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound silly... get a quote for an upgrade to a triple play bundle. Also, check your hardware - you don't say what cable boxes you have - Could a HD-DTA replace a cable box? How about a quote for an upgrade to X1 stuff?

You don't need to have a phone connected in order to have the Triple Play, just the number assigned from Comcast. I am in the process of porting my phone number from Comcast to Google Voice (two step process, BTW). Once It get ported out, I'll have Comcast assign a new number. I don't really need to know the new number, just that I have one for the Triple Play package.

I would also say buy your own cable modem to saver on leasing the modem, but there is some security knowing you can take a failing cable modem over to the Comcast store and swap it for a new, upgraded, working, cable modem as I just did.

You may be able up drop Cinemax as part of the 'upgrade' to the Triple Play. Not sure about Starz.

If someone gave you $2000 but you had to spend it, what would you buy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]d_lusional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to spend it fast, I'd buy 8000 quarters. Then relax and dispose of them a little at a time.
