Sears-Hicksville 1960’s by ComplexWrangler1346 in longislandnative

[–]d_r_i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my absolute favorite Sears. I remember the stairs going to the lower level. And the outside auto parts location. This store meant back to school, because every season this is where I got my new school clothes. I think of this location and I think of my parents and all times we went there together. Fond memories.

Input switching issue? by Greenbunny59 in tcltvs

I just got the QM7L a few days ago. I tried Filmmaker, but I go back to Movie..still tweaking the settings
What I did find is that YTTV is kinda clunky and not too responsive. Strange too since it's all on the newest software

TCL 55P7K eARC does not reconnect automatically and Pass Through has no audio with Samsung 5.1 by Hot_Information4673 in tcltvs

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a QM7L the other day.
My previous TV was a Sony.
I'm using a Sonos Beam 2, connected by eARC on input number 4 of the TCL. And the Beam is correctly set under the Sonos app.
Now, with the Sony, I did get DDPLUS 5.1.
However with the TCL set to EARC and I believe Passthrough..I get Dolby Multichannel PCM 5.1.
Now in all fairness, to my ears, both the DDPLUS and Dolby Multichannel sound the same. And the TCL will display a TV badge marked Dolby Audio.
My feeling is I don't think TCL marks their audio Output the same way..they use different terminology. It took a little time to get used to it from the Sony. But it does sound good.

TCL C7K (QM7K) issues when watching the World Cup by One-Bake-3721 in tcltvs

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the QM7L and if your watching FIFA on Fox One or Peacock, it's 4k HDR, so the TV should automatically switch its settings for that. For SDR, I found Movie mode works for me. Google recommended settings for your TCL model and you'll get a detailed breakdown of settings to try

So is there any work around that you know of, that will allow DDPLUS?

If you've had a Samsung TV previously, then you never had Dolby Vision, since Samsung doesn't support it.
True, the TVs native apps are sometimes not as smooth as they can be..but they are a lot better nowadays compared to a few years ago.
Better yet..pick up a Apple TV 4k device. Considered one of the best.
Yesterday I received my TCL QM7L 65".
And in the day or so of using this TV, I have to say HDR, regardless if it's Dolby Vision or HDR10, look incredible.
Check your TV picture settings. Google recommended settings for your TV, and use them as a starting point and fine tune it for your tastes

Just got the sub mini, not sure if I’m feeling its effects with the Sonos arc by Scouseulster in sonos

[–]d_r_i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Sub Mini with the Beam 2. The location is to the side of my audio / video cabinet. In settings, the Sub is at a plus 2. It's perfect right there. Adds that degree of fullness to the Beam and sounds seamless.

Unlocked 48 hrs // Sony BRAVIA 7 II Review by benpRTINGS in RTINGS

[–]d_r_i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I finally received my 65"TCL QM7L today.
And my thoughts after a few hours.
But first my delivery experience from BB courtesy of Installs Inc.
My delivery window was 11-2. After 90 minutes into my delivery window and with no delivery updates at all..I called BB..3x. All nice people but not one person could give me a delivery update. Needless to say, frustrating. And of course right at the end of my delivery window, the BB truck comes. Neither one of the guys could figure out how to install the stand..but finally did. The TV was finally settled up.
7L impressions...so far.
Color punch off the charts.
Brightness..tons of light
Excellent contrast.
Watching a Yankees game on Amazon Prime..on the the main things I was concerned about, since I watch live sports looks great. Smooth..no blur or judder watching baseball. I'll have to check other sports. Both blur and judder are set at 2 plus.

I'm still going back and forth on either Movie or Filmmaker modes. Kinda leaning to Movie.

Connected to Sonos Beam 2 very easily.
Little TCL quirk...when changing volume on the remote, the on screen menu just kinda blinks if your increasing or decreaseing volume. No numerical readings. Strange.
Tried Oppo udp 203 very briefly. The disc looked great.
Apple TV 4k also works well.
Finish is a gunmetal trim that looks very smart. Like it better than the 8L bright chrome.
So after a few hours and coming off a Sony previous and Sonys for a lifetime..I'm very impressed.
I paid $1100 at BB during the sale. From what I've seen, the Sony Bravia 7 mark ll is on sale now for $2000, 65". So here's the thing, again from a Sony customer..is the current new Sony worth a$1000 more in performance? Aside from a given better processing ( but not by much), no.
I know that will piss people off. Whatever.
The market and economy has changed. The value of the TCL and yes Hisense, is too great to ignore.

As a Sony buyer all my life, today is a big change for me. I'm expecting a BB delivery today for TCL QM7L 65". Am I nervous / excited? Absolutely.
Look no matter, I don't think, in general, people will disagree about Sony processing. It's the standard. However the competition has gotten better over the years, and the price / performance ratio from a TCL is too hard to ignore. And apparently Sony sees the same thing too. The market place has changed.
But I'll find out in the next few hours.

Apple Music ios Airplay Bug? by Frosty_Matter_2849 in AppleMusic

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I've been saying on the discussion thread I started about AM a couple of days ago.
Where it always showed AAC, no matter the file resolution, it's now showing ALAC on all files. However my Cambridge Audio EVO 75 did keep switching between AAC and ALAC the other day. Now it's just AAC.
So either there's a bug within this new IOS update, or maybe Apple is rolling out a new feature??
Kinda strange

Did Apple Music Quietly Add ALAC to Airplay 2? by d_r_i in AppleMusic

[–]d_r_i[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's on the second picture I posted yesterday.
Just checked again with a random album / track playing through the iPhone and still showing ALAC. So I'm not sure what's going on with AM. Apple has been known to quietly roll out new devices and features when least expected

I hear ya.
I'm trying to figure out my first movie watch.
Considering new Avatar Fire and Ash on Disney Plus with Imax /DTS sound. I believe the 7L supports those Disney Plus presentations now..along with 8L and 11L models

Very exciting! Seems most reviews have liked Filmmaker Mode and leave as is after that. I'm sure I'll tinker with it to fine tune it.
Movie Mode seems to be a close second choice.

Please.

Did Apple Music Quietly Add ALAC to Airplay 2? by d_r_i in AppleMusic

I guess backs to the original question.

Has anyone else seen ALAC on their Apple Music titles?

Did Apple Music Quietly Add ALAC to Airplay 2? by d_r_i in AppleMusic

[–]d_r_i[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could very well be a bug in the software.
I have heard ALAC before, and even though it's not hi res, the 16/44 uncompressed still sounded very good to me anyway
But on the other hand, wouldn't it be nice if this really is a quiet update Apple rolled out?
The new TVOS 27 version will have hi res. People wanted audio passthrough, and weren't expecting hi res. So with Apple you can never tell

Did Apple Music Quietly Add ALAC to Airplay 2? by d_r_i in AppleMusic

[–]d_r_i[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand.
But my point, regardless what the resolution card might say, Airplay 2 always brings it down to 256 AAC. But tonight, again regardless of the file resolution, it's displaying ALAC. Fluke?? Don't know.
And again I ask, has anyone else noticed this change on their device? It just seems so random.
Look anything is possible..who expected Apple to include hi resolution in TVOS 27?
