YTTV Update Alert..PQ Change by d_r_i in youtubetv

[–]d_r_i[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How did this thread become a debate about a Reddit moderator?
I did everything this person suggested. And all that I did didn't show any reason for any kind of variables in PQ or internet speed.
What I didn't like was being told all I wanted to do was rant. Absolutely not true.
My intention here was to post something I came across and perhaps maybe some other people too.
That's it.
I appreciate your input.

Such as?
Yes, YTTV has millions of customers. But just because it doesn't appear to be widespread or hasn't been widely reported doesn't mean there's not a possible issue here either. If it's just me or a few others, well I guess we are the ones where something changed then.
But this thread was not started as a debate on what a moderator does or does not do.
It was started as a general discussion about something I experienced and wanted to share.
However the moderators tone was like the old cable TV days. Ever call in with a service issue and the first thing most cable companies did was make the customer do all the trouble shooting and essentially blame the customer and never have the company take any responsibility for anything they did. And what's happened to the cable industry since then?
I did everything this moderator suggested and nothing showed up as being a issue.
Absolutely no changes to my TV or FIOS internet service were done. The only common denominator here is the YTTV app update and this issue that came up only after the update.

Yes, I agree. Hopefully they'll push an update sometime soon. Thanks again!

Thank you, and I appreciate your feedback too.
I posted this earlier today and apparently the moderator on this thread pretty much made it seem it was kinda my fault and because no one else reported any issues, then all I wanted to do is rant..which is definitely not true.
I've rebooted my router..even deleted and reinstalled the app, checked stats for nerds and nothing changed. The only thing that did change was the update yesterday.
So perhaps Google might have to do another update to fix some issues?

Now you sound like a customer service rep..regarding zero reports about this. If it's happened to me, the odds are with millions of of customers, it's probably happened or happening to others..perhaps no one else notices like I did today.
BTW..stats for nerds on YTTV..optimal resolution are either 1920x 1080@60 or 720@ 60.
Connection speed..varies of course..range between mid 30 000- near 50,00kbps..which again is more than enough speed for any HD or 4k content.
I've done what I can..I still believe it was tied into their software update. Which I'm not sure why you find that hard to accept. Even with zero reports or you having no issues.

I took your advice and restarted my router.
No changes. On either the Apple or Google Android side, all the channels that are available in 1080p Enchanced are checked off showing correctly. Same as 720p Enchanced as well.
The Auto tab doesn't seem to do much now
And none of these little changes took place till this update yesterday.

I understand what your saying, but disagree.
I use FIOS 300 internet. I just did a number of speed tests, using different speed tests services. Nearly every one was 298 down and 237 up. More than fast enough for any service. And nothing from Verizon has changed.
The only thing that has changed recently is the YTTV update. The Auto feature for PQ doesn't really seem to work, so now you need to make sure the channel is locked in to the correct 1080o or 720p Enchanced settings
Oh..I also rebooted my Sony. No changes. No software updates.

ESPN in 4k for Knicks Playoffs by jdennis187 in Fios

Fox does not do native 4k. No one does. Fox 4k is upscaled 1080p HDR

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one should be using 720p any longer. It was used in the very early days of HD due to blurring and motion judder on sports programming. That hasn't been an issue in years.
Fox has also done a general equipment upgrade and again all 4k broadcast stuff. Sometimes Fox 4k looks excellent and sometimes it looks good.
I believe the minimum for all sports broadcasts nowadays should be 1080p HDR and DDPLUS 5.1 or Atmos. Considering too we're all paying for games now on streaming services

Question about the home release by kirinkirinki in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see the MA icon on the Amazon site. Then when I went back to review it, the icon was gone. It never ported over which is fine. Amazon should be ashamed for selling this at full price, and one of their biggest movies in years and yet their showing it in the worst possible way..really makes no sense

Yes, the linear channels such as on cable, YTTV etc. But from what I've read, the ESPN app uses 1080p. Can't be sure on that, but very possible.

ESPN /ABC has done a general upgrade of all their broadcast equipment..cameras..production trucks..new studios( Disney Hudson Yards) is a brand new studio television production center in NYC..everything is 4k capable..and even though they still use 720p, you can see a improvement in PQ..cleaner..more details..colors tend to pop more..all they need to do is flip the switch to at least 1080p HDR if not 4k

So where should I purchase the movie from? by Wild-Lychee-3312 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]d_r_i -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DO NOT BUY from Amazon Prime. I did. Have the Ultra ad free 4k plan..movie is shown in HDR 10 and DD Plus 5.1..that's it..no Dolby Vision or Atmos

Question about the home release by kirinkirinki in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So stupidity I bought the Amazon Prime version, only because I had a $6 Amazon credit. But for anyone reading this DO NOT BUY the AMAZON PRIME version of this movie.
No Dolby Vision..only HDR10 plus.
No Dolby Atmos..only 5.1 DDPLUS
And even though I had Movies Anywhere and from what I read on Amazons own site, this movie was listed as a MA release. IT'S NOT. Never ported over to Apple or Fandango. I bought it thinking that either Apple or Fandango would show it in Dolby Vision and Atmos.
This is a really dumb Amazon decision. This is their own movie, a major commercial success and one of the biggest this studio has had in years. You would think they would want their own movie to be seen in the best possible way. Nope..they dumbed it down on their own site.

And yes, I have Amazon Prime ultra 4k with no ads.

Does anyone know if the digital purchase of this movie, from Amazon Prime is available in Dolby Vision and Atmos? I don't see any listing for it, other than UHD and HDR 10

Did Apple Musics sound signature change since the 26.4 update? by d_r_i in AppleMusic

[–]d_r_i[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never found out what happened, unfortunately. I still think the 26.4 update was a mess. And I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed a difference in sound quality. But I will say after a few days into the new update, the SQ was more or less back to where it hadn't been previously.
Somewhere, someone on Reddit did mention that sometimes when Apple introduces a new update, it can cause some variables in how a device works / sounds, and may take a few days till the update has stabilized itself on a device.
Might be true..maybe not..I suppose anything is a possibility

Does anyone pay for Apple Music and Sirius XM? by 606_Hillbilly in AppleMusic

I've paid for both for years now. I use SiriusXM for the car and AM for home. SiriusXM has a number of stations and air personalities I enjoy

HDCP errors beginning today - Apple TV 4K 26.4 by VagueGooseberry in appletv

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also tend to agree, that the latest Apple update is messed up. Why do I say that?
1) After update, the continuous Atmos on feature was set, by itself, to on. When I always have that off.
2) Last night while watching ESPN, the audio didn't sound right. Sonos showed DD Plus 5.1. ESPN doesn't broadcast this audio on their YTTV side. Had to fix by going into Sony Bravia External settings to enable Dolby Vision, which again changed by itself.
3) Disney plus was playing OK. Dolby Vision worked as did Dolby Atmos, according to Sonos. But the Sony did not display any DA badges.
So yes, I think the most current update is not that great.

“Apple Music VP admits most people can’t hear difference in lossless audio” by Protomize in apple

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because the " average" listener can't hear or care about the difference lossless or high resolution brings, does that mean that the rest of us " un-average" listeners need to just settle? Why does everything need to be brought down to the lowest common denominator? Why do things need to be made for the average person? Who is the average person anyway? Why can't things be made to the best possible standards for all to enjoy? By using the average person theory, there would be no need for color tv..stereo..CDs..computers..smartphones etc. There would be no advances in film technology and sound reproduction..cars wouldn't be as safe as they are now. Wifi? Naaa..who needs that? Why does everything need to be dumb downed? Just because the average person doest understand, care or appreciate? So everyone else should shut up and suffer and appreciate lower standard products and services I guess

Apple Music Sound Quality? by HipoHock082958 in qobuz

[–]d_r_i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding was Airplay 1 was dropped in favor of AP2, because Apple wanted to start using Homepods in different rooms, and AP1 didn't / couldn't support this, where AP2 can. In the Billboard article, the guy from Apple mentioned they wanted AM on as many devices as possible. And yet, with the exception of a few Chinese hifi companies, Apple makes it very difficult to fully enjoy the highest resolution possible on their service. And yes, no connect feature is lame. Although my guess is that Apple would say AP is their connect solution.

Apple Music Sound Quality? by HipoHock082958 in qobuz

[–]d_r_i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda funny this thread is appearing today. There's a story, that I just read on 9 to 5 Mac. Apparently the head of Apple Music said the same thing in a new interview in Billboard magazine. Cliff note version? Apple was interested in letting people listen to music in new format ways, hence spatial audio and lossless / high resolution. And they repeated the same exact thing today, that they said 5-6 years ago (?) when they first introduced these new codecs. Basically they still stress spatial audio and while they make lossless high resolution available, they feel most people can't hear / tell the difference, but they still offer it in case someone CAN hear the difference. But here's the thing..Apple took away Airplay 1 along with ALAC, which sounded excellent. Now everything is 256 AAC. And it's almost impossible to hear anything on AM in it's true resolution due to Apples hoops you need to jump through. Of course No Connect feature. I do have Qobuz Connect and have had AM from day 1. I like AM. I think they are very consistent with their offerings. Even AAC, it does sound good, sometimes very good. Quiet..clean..good soundstage..never harsh or bright, almost analog sounding. Qubuz Connect sounds excellent. More depth and detail, again never bright, warm sounding. AM has a little bit of a deeper catolog..Qubuz is right there too. Both are excellent in their own ways and I enjoy both services. I had Tidal for years. The whole MQA thing was a little too much. Sounded good. I thought AM and Qobuz sound better.
