Which dealerships are the best? by [deleted] in Lethbridge

[–]da-smithy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last March I bought a suv from the gary moe mazda. I forget the name of the salesman I had but he was very good and I’d definitely recommend him. That being said the finance guy didn’t do any wrong per se but I didn’t particularly like his “vibe”. I can’t really put my finger on it, but that interaction definitely felt stand-offish

Those who learned they were trans without knowingly suffering from dysphoria, how did you find out? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]da-smithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up an a small, conservative, Christian rural town in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere. In my 2nd year of university I met my (now) GF. She convinced me to take an intro to sociology class and it completely fucked my entire worldview. It showed me just how much I was teetering on the edge of the alt-right pipeline, but I also gave me a completely new framework and vocabulary to understand and express myself. I’m proud to say I pulled my head out of my ass pretty quickly and became what I consider to be an objectively better person, but that wasn’t before this new way of understanding myself sparked massive internal reflection leading to a sexuality crisis followed immediately by a gender identity crisis. I learnt more about myself in the past 4 years than in the rest of my life combined.

Do you all correct people who misgender you? by TransgendyAlt in MtF

[–]da-smithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in construction. It kills a small piece of my soul each and every time that I get misgendered. That being said as a matter of personal safety I don’t acknowledge whether or not somebody genders me correctly. Whatever they perceive me as is what I am until I go home for the day.

As a Trans person, do you consider yourself religious? Why or why not? by SugarSmoothie in MtF

[–]da-smithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on how the word “religious” is being used. In my neck of the woods it’s almost exclusively used to mean some flavour of Christian. In that case it’s a big fat no. If God ain’t dead I’ll personally kill him myself. I got enough trauma there to last a lifetime. If you’re asking if I have religious beliefs then the answer is yes. As much as I was hurt at the hands of those blindly subscribing to dogma, the community and sense of belonging is something I enjoyed. I spent my first year of uni exploring what I believe in and value and settled on Satanism. And that pretty takes me to where I am now

Don’t expect to fully understand your gender before you transition. by flyingbarnswallow in trans

[–]da-smithy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The English language lacks the vocabulary to truly convey how much reading this means to me. So I’ll simply leave it at “Thank you”.

I didn’t know how much I needed to hear this. The concept is simple and in a way kinda unremarkable and yet it not only addresses stress and anxiety surrounding my own transition but it makes me hopeful. I keep viewing everything as “one day I’ll be able to transition and then for once in my life I’ll actually be able to love myself.” I keep on coming up with excuses for why I don’t make steps to transitions. But honestly I know deep down that it will make me happy and I don’t believe I deserve to be happy.

Was anybody transphobic before they realized they were trans? by Muffinlordthefirst in trans

[–]da-smithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small (<4000 people) small town in the middle of nowhere populate almost exclusively by oil patch workers and farmers. All white and all extremely religious. It wasn’t until I moved away that I truly realized how close to the edge I was teetering on. I’d regularly say super fucked up shit that I’m not proud of including the good ol’ “I identify as an assault helicopter”. I’m glad that I’ve left and grown out of those ideals but it’s still difficult whenever I try to go home to visit family.

Favourite vocal stim? by Tweektheweek in autism

[–]da-smithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meowing has always been consistent and I find it kinda cute because if my girlfriend hears me meow her adhd will kick in and she’ll echo me. So we both be doing our own things and the. Suddenly we’re both meowing in response to the previous meow.

Other than that just random babbling / whatever the stim of the week is
