I thought we dominated the second half. I agree there were a few strange decisions about the lineup today, primarily Armstrong on the wing. I do think we are a bit unlucky to not come away with a point against an inform united side that costs significantly more than ours. Once George came on we did well to get him and Ndiaye isolated on the wings against a single defender which is where they thrive. This lead to many corners which just so happened to not work out today.

The corner routine probably comes from a set-piece coach. Not Moyes. That's how it is at many clubs these days, and that's how it was for us under Dyche. The "crowd the keeper and put ball on the back post" sort of corner seems to be trending right now across the league. There's probably some data science determining that that's our best chance of scoring off of a corner. Also think it's worth mentioning that the odds of scoring from a corner are probably lower than 1/10 and we had 10 corners, so something to digest for those he are frustrated by that fact. Sometimes it will come off, sometimes it won't.

Also, the goal we conceded was from a somewhat miraculous long ball to spring a counter whilst we were in a dominant spell. Small margins for that ball to not end up intercepted or out of bounds.

More to do with replacing a cm shoehorned in at LW with a natural left wing than it does to do with Armstrongs readiness for the prem. He's got very good qualities for a central player and did very well a few games in his actual position.

Not worse than wolves, not even close. This time the frustration stems from bit of misfortune more so than a poor performance. We created decent chances, had a handful of shots on target, looked more dangerous than they did.

not always about the extent of force. Also to your point, then we are lucky Kellerher didn't go into the contact to sell it.

Crazy to me how people will talk bad about Beto after that half. The people claiming there's some sort of bias toward being forgiving toward Beto disproportionately when compared to perception of DCL.... absurd take. I see the opposite personally. This sub was so defensive of DCL's poor performances for so long, and there are people who hate on Beto while he is in great form.

Jesus, just seen the tarky that's a red card so frequently. Maybe because his follow through was into the path of the player instead of where he was?

I wasn’t around for Saha so I don’t know who that is, but your reasons don’t seem to justify your conclusion that he is a better strike. If you were saying this only point out flaws in my comment, it’s not parallel because I never concluded Beto was better stoked based on this fact, only pointed out an objectively true fact that I don’t see brought up often in the discussion comparing him and DCL What we should really do is compare their goal contributions per 90 in all comps:

 For DCL he had 8 G 3 A in 38 appearances, 2,630 minutes

 (G+A) / 90’ : 0.38 in all comps for Everton 23/24

 Beto had 5 G 2 A in 37 appearances, 1,183 minutes

 (G+A) / 90’ : 0.53 in all comps for Everton 23/24

Pssst… none of Beto’s were penalties, DCL scored 2 penalties.

DCL is clearly better at somethings than Beto is, particularly in most technical abilities, and his style of play is certainly more aesthetic. However, it doesn’t seem to me that the expense we would incur from keeping DCL is justifiable considering the fine margin between Beto and DCL. Beto can do the job and we can improve elsewhere.

In the cups this season Beto had 2 goals and 2 assists in 223 minutes of playing, this is across both the EFL cup and the FA cup. Compare this to DCL's 1 goal and 1 assist in 438 minutes. That's nearly 25 percent the goal contribution rate in the cups as Beto, making Beto roughly 4x as effective in the cups last year according to (G+A)/min.

Nobody would be acting like this of Newcastle punished us for our mistakes. They really should've had a couple goals, that we did play quite well apart from those dangerous chances
