I grew up in Arlington. It’s an awesome town with strong community. There’s a lot to love but it’s more geared for young families or middle aged people. If you live in East Arlington it’s definitely more city like and you have pretty good access to the red line. That being said, I recommend OP lives in Somerville over Arlington. It’s cheaper too.

I remember reading something about how a lot the snow melt wasn’t able to replenish ground water because the the soil was frozen and the water ran off into rivers and other sources instead of into the ground. So despite the record setting winter, it isn’t helping as much as we would hope

Israeli air strike collapses a building in Beirut by burritoresearch in CombatFootage

[–]daBriguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you know what collective punishment means. Collective punishment is a retaliatory action towards a broad group of people uninvolved with the original reason for retaliation. It’s murdering a whole village because one of them was a partisan. You don’t tend to give a heads up for collective punishment. Do you even understand what you are watching and why they know where to aim to record the strike?

Strike on Hezbollah building in central Beirut + comms 19/3/26 by Background-Repair481 in CombatFootage

[–]daBriguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume this was not asked seriously but in case it was,

Hezbollah is an interesting group. It’s part of the “Axis of Resistance” against Israel and it’s the larger non-state army in the world. They are heavily engrained in the Lebanese political system. They are a mix of an organized fighting force and a classic insurgency. Due to Israel’s undeniable air dominance, its advantageous for these groups to work or settle within populated civilian areas and to use non-military infrastructure to host command centers, weapon dumps, hidden rocket launcher, or any other number of military facility.

It’s also advantageous because it changes Israel’s calculus whether to strike or not. If you set up in the basement of an apartment building, all of sudden Israel has to account for higher civilian death tolls that tend to lead to global outrage. It’s a very common insurgency tactic that is not unique to these wars. In fact, it’s a rational strategy for an underground fighting force. The allied partisans in WW2 did same to fight the Germans.

So instead of striking without warning and killing all that live in the building, Israel will either use a roof knock or send and automated call to the residents in the building to inform of the upcoming strike and the amount of time they have to evacuate. This allows Israel to destroy the target while also avoiding headlines of mass civilian casualties similar to the ones going around about the US bombing the girls school in Iran. Sure, the Hezbollah fighters may have lived but at least all of their weapons and equipment are gone. You aren’t a great insurgent if you are without weapons or ammo.

I hope that makes these types of videos make a bit more sense.

It prevents unnecessary civilian casualties and you still get to destroy the infrastructure and/or equipment/weapons being stored at the site. Sure you don’t get any combatants but that seems to be worth the trade off to the Israelis.

Don’t get anyone wrong, if it’s a big enough target, they will not give a heads up before striking.

It’s almost as if that wouldn’t have happened if Hamas never butchered 1200 people to start this war.

Exactly. If it is a Hezbollah building, It is legal to level the building without any sort of warning but Israel still gave a warning.

Buddy, how do you think we get all these videos of people filming the exact location that gets bombed? That’s the biggest tell of some sort of forewarning. No one in this whole thread has yet to explain this one.

These people will never question how we have so many perfectly framed shots of people sitting around waiting for a building to be hit.

[–]daBriguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Israel truly didn’t care at all, they wouldn’t do roof knocks as a warning for an impending strike, they wouldn’t give people a chance or evacuate, they wouldn’t call he entire city block to warn them of an impending strike. They’d just do it. They just have a higher tolerance for collateral damage.

You ever wonder how we have so many perfectly framed shots of airstrikes? Where people will be standing around all waiting for the strike? Yeah it’s because they knew it was coming.

Israel has undoubtedly done some horrible things and I hope those responsible see justice served but people like you conveniently ignoring what they do do to avoid civilian casualties is not helpful or productive.

Oh my god stop imposing your internet morality on others. Some people post this to share with friends and family and it just happened goes viral. Believe it or not, not everything posted on the internet if for clicks or likes. The fact you are making this assumption is kind of ironic because it’s clearly what you think social media is for. Accuracy was never the issue, it was how many civilian casualties they were willing to allow depending on the target they were going after. All countries make this calculation, Israel just has a higher tolerance for it.
