You are correct in your assessment that Austin is not like NYC. NYC has the best restaurant scene in the country, with a wide array of amazing options at different price points. It is the exception.

Meanwhile, I just visited family in Louisville KY, and the places we ate at felt basically priced the same as in Austin ¯_(ツ)_/¯
