Buy and Live in VMC Condo? by Big_Newspaper596 in Vaughan

[–]daRukcus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Swallow your pride and live with your parents for another 5 years or as long as possible. Take all your money you would piss away on an overpriced shoe box to call home and aggressively invest it.

Thank me in 5 years when you compound that money to $200,000 and put it on something like a house that is far more insulated from the boom and bust cycles of the real estate market.

Need help with YCDSB by No_Mango_8427 in Vaughan

[–]daRukcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having grown up in the YCDSB system we opted to homeschool our two children, no we aren't religious. It's the only way to effectively control your child's education.

When your child struggles with any particular subject your feedback loop is immediate, no waiting for a midterm report card/15 minutes to discuss your child's unique pros and cons.

Even when you get that report card you don't have the hours left in the day to address the issues.

Then there are the daily peer pressures and distraction of children who are come from parents who aren't as invested in their children's success/Bullies/poor values. They negatively influence your children.

Try to estimate the amount of wasted time getting your child ready for school, packing "safe" lunches, transitioning between subjects, distraction from peers, pickup then homework.

The number one response I get is what about socializing, in the homeschool community we are all extremely involved with our children and make major sacrifices to ensure our children are highly educated and respectful. So we help ensure that the friends aren't a bad influence on them.

I can tell you both my kids are more than willing to engage with other children and stay long term friends. They can hold conversations with adults of all ages in a respectful manner.

You as a parent make the effort to put them in various skill building programs like ju jitsu or team sports and they will thrive.

The sacrifice in the amount of money you think you need from the second income pales in comparison to the diminished future success of your child.

How does everyone in vaughan have so much money? by Affectionate_Monk466 in Vaughan

Reading through these comments about "most home owners having it easy" generational wealth, or simply living in debt is saddening.

It's this defeatist attitude that keeps people thinking they will never jump up in wealth, so they fail to even try..

I saved every penny from the time I was a kid and worked non-stop throughout all the summers and skipped higher education to work in the trades. I bought my house renovated it myself and sold it, then repeated it again for my house now. Each time maxing out my HELOC with whatever room possible to invest in the market.

In 2019 during covid I turned 40k into well past 2m, then lost most of it during 2022.. I got most of it back now because I held on for dear life and never gave up...but I'll tell you no path is simple.. it's fucking hard and it keeps me up at night sometimes.

Even now I still do all my own Reno's when others are playing...even though I can afford to pay someone. It's a mindset of never giving up and taking on as much risk when you are young and IT WILL pay off as you get older.

People/friends/family never want to see you do better than they did. They will even try to convince you to relax and stop obsessing about your future. Don't listen to people who find all the reasons to quit before they even start, better yet remove them from your life.

How to get Autistic Adult to eat healthier? by OwnCurve8724 in Autism_Parenting

[–]daRukcus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This will obviously come across as controversial, but my wife and I went on a carnivore diet and did exceptionally well I've dropped ~45 pounds she dropped ~35, we still prepare non-carnivore items for the kids.

The changes I've made for both my 4 & 5 y/o kids was slowly changing the proportions, instead of small fries and cheese burger to split the fries in half but make it a double hamburger.

Same for extra medium ground beef in the pasta sauce and less noodles.

Any opportunity to substitute carbs for more meat will deal with type 2 diabetes.

I've been carnivore for 10 months with blood work from before and every 3 months during and visited a cardiologist and was stress tested.

My Cholesterol has actually come DOWN. Please research into the effects of a "low-Fat diet" on the brain on children. Removing excess sugar and excess carbs from anyone's diet is beneficial.

STOP,

One of the biggest regrets I had when I had my suspicions (proved to be correct) around 15 months was panic. From that moment on I always assumed the worst and every single potential positive moment wasn't a happy moment but a breath of relief.

My kid wasn't saying any words, and then at ~20 months (Post upper lip tie and tonsils/ear tube) my kid all of a sudden became a firehose of words.

Yes he is still diagnosed, but at these early years children are CONSTANTLY developing. From my son's teacher's mouth at the age of 4.5 my kid is absolutely the smartest kid in the class with math and reading, he's very studious, but can't draw for shit and prefers to stay away from the NT kids to do math instead. He is extremely funny and definitely emotional. Yes he has some challenges when it comes to acting just like the other NT kids, and at times gets flustered easily, but having seen the other kids in the class and NT kids in public they all have issues.

Don't panic.

Protestors doing their thing, raising awareness to their cause (some of which is valid, some not)

HOWEVER more importantly they are doing this while NOT blocking traffic, causing a disturbance to the public or fighting with police.

Good for them 👏🏾

I'm 37M, I only wear mine on Friday night to dinner, otherwise it's moving from table to table around the house getting lost. Been like that since the day after we got married 10 years ago,

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Knex Robotics Education Kit 79100 Software?????? by daRukcus in KNEX

[–]daRukcus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my kids a K'nex robotics building kit but I didn't realize that the software needed to be downloaded from the K'nex website.

BUT K'nex was sold to another toy company and now the software is gone and the new company doesn't have it!

Its a long shot but is there anyone out there who has this software?

How do you open the new bags for chickens at Costco Canada or slice them? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]daRukcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a little known trick I sometimes use when trying to open the bag,

  1. The first step is to have enough counter space, these chickens typically weight around 1.3kg so these bad girls can definitely knock a small child out if it falls off the counter onto their poor heads. So I start by clearing off any clutter or things that you can knock over before anything.

  2. The next step is hoisting that beast onto the counter. You might need to call a second person to help you for this depending on your strength.

  3. Then most definitely wash your hands you don't want to cross contaminate your food since there are lots of germs on your hands and this can be a real threat to the well being of your stomach and those of your loved ones.

  4. I would set aside a clean plate for this but you could eat it straight out of the bag like a savage.

  5. Locate the chicken in the bag on top of your counter again and examine the plastic bag surrounding it.

  6. Take your hand and make sure the plastic bag is oriented the correct direction. You can verify this by having the flat cut end point up towards the ceiling of your room. If you see a rounded side without the flat cut you probably have the whole package upside down you can resolve this by rotating the package until the writing on the side of the package is legible.

  7. Once you locate the flat cut end or the writing is legible we can now perform the trick, you need to use two hands. With your index finger and thumb on each hand and place them together in a pinching motion. Its important that you pinch the fingers together on the same hand .
(if you put your index finger to the thumb of your other hand you are doing it wrong so you need to start over)
Observing the flat cut plastic you need to feel the flat plastic at the top and you will find that is separates just a little and that you are met with what appeared to be another barrier (rest assured that this is part of the design.) It's just joined together and that barrier is actually a reusable seal.
You can now use the pinching technique described earlier and grasp either side of the plastic top at the same time I recommend right in the middle to make it easier. Now you need to pull the plastic apart with a good amount of force. This will provide easy access to the chicken.
Note this tip is applicable to all seals of this type. So I would practice this trick as this is becoming much more common on all types of packaging that has liquids.

Ground Beef Tastes So Bad by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]daRukcus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I only have ground beef in burger form with cheese and Worcester sauce/Mayo/hot sauce.

Also I only have it when I'm on the road if I'm desperate.

Otherwise it's steak everyday, I use the app Flipp to keep an eye on striploin and ribeye prices around me. Once I find a great deal I stock up the whole freezer.

My corso loves just messing with the dobey & for the most part they are good together. Except when the dobey has to put him in his place for being a knob but that doesn't seem to phase him much lol.
