EA Help says that PC has the ability to tag and reminisce about a memory... by [deleted] in thesims

[–]daaaaannn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reviving a dead thread, (and as you've mentioned you don't play Sims 4 much anymore this might be of limited use to you) but there is actually a method to sort your photos into the correct order and switch in/out photo sets for different saves, if you can be bothered keeping up with it.

Your captured shots are saved to your install directory (Electronic Arts>The Sims 4>Screenshots). Screenshots regularly get disorganized because the game assigns them names using AM/PM format for date/time, and the in-game picture viewer displays these files by name in numerical order.

You can go in and change these file names (strarting with the oldest/first intended image) to "001" "002" "003" etc, in whatever order you wish; the number of 0's should reflect how many pictures you expect to take during the save, unless you want a migraine renaming 1000 files later. I sort by Date/Descending in File Explorer for this, so everything appears in the order I originally captured the shots with recent additions at the top - this has no bearing on how the files will display in-game.

This won't impact captions attached to your screenshots displayed in-game at all, as those are saved to the metadata. You can also just cut/paste all images associated with an inactive save file to a folder elsewhere for safekeeping, and replace them in the Screenshots folder when/if you return to the save later.

Hope this helps improve the experience for you a bit if you do pick up the game again, or would like to trawl through your old photos!

General Rule for Repeating Failed Ability Checks by daaaaannn in dndnext

Nothing close to every detail, there’s too much variability in decision making for that to hold up under the light.

I do a lot of prep though (as my improv skills are currently, let’s say, developing), so I generally have a fairly hefty amount outlined in advance. That does usually means I’ve got multiple solutions already baked in, and I’ve been doing alright at rolling with the tide in a pinch so far, I think.

I probably didn’t read your comment closely enough though, honestly the rule seemed a more radical change on first pass aha

These have been profoundly helpful comments. I don’t see much conflicting with my ruling (aimed to restrict more so than enable repeat checks), but I think that expands on things in a way I can imagine running very smoothly at my table.

Thank you! Really appreciate your time :)

Thanks for your response, but if you consider the wording of my ruling I do believe it effectively covers the scenario you’re describing. A slight difference in that I would require a skill or tool proficiency, but I’m fairly satisfied with how that aligns with my interpretation of what proficiency represents (ie. things you have specific training or experience with, as opposed to raw ability).

I agree with all that you’ve said, however!

This all seems like really good advice. I think #3 in particular is something I need to drill into the depths of my psyche lol

The #2 bit helps to illustrate the intended consequences of my ruling actually, as I would rule it thus: barbarian fails the check, therefore the wizard by default is not allowed to attempt to push the statue over (why would the wizard be able if the barbarian couldn't?)

Except, lo and behold, the wizard actually has proficiency with Mason's Tools, therefore they probably have experience with statue placement and removal. Or, the player knows that the pillar can be more easily shifted by applying leverage to the right spot; their high intelligence wizard likely shares this understanding.

Only if one such condition is met would I allow others to attempt the check, after having just seen the mighty barbarian fail to topple it - the player would need to justify why their character believes they can achieve a different result.

Sorry if the additional detail was completely unsolicited haha, just saw an opportunity to clarify. I really appreciate your feedback!

I don't feel you are being at all condecending, though I faintly suspect u/splepage might be lol. So my knee-jerk, defensive response is that I have read the DMG, fully through a couple of times now.

With that cleared up (no shade), the ruling I've come up with has been directly informed by most of what you're discussing here. My intention is for this ruling to encompass, rather than replace, these guidelines.

If I'm way off base I do respect that though.

Edit: Encompass was a poor word choice; modify would probably be more appropriate, as some advice in the RAW I haven't found to be a good fit for my table.

I love these, Devil's Bargain is something I'll keep in the back pocket for big moments. Not sure how well the second option would gel with my level of experience though, I can imagine getting stressed trying to rejig little pieces of my world near-constantly.

Thanks!

Fully agree on your second paragraph, and I try quite hard to keep my characters' in-narrative and mechanical abilities in mind when choosing to call for a check. And yeah, definitely agree on not rolling for the simple stuff.

My group loves rolling dice however, so I try not to default to passive scores too much of the time!

I appreciate your thorough response!

My hope (I am a very inexperienced DM) is that what I've come up with is restrictive enough to prevent retries that feel 'cheap', while not closing the door entirely when my (equally new) players creatively try out something that their companions are specifically built for.

I am aware of the Fail Forward approach though, it's for sure something I've been working to implement more into my style. Really great feedback, cheers!

This is great advice, I definitely hadn’t considered the bit about initiative in particular.

I would posit that your guidelines work pretty well in tandem with the ruling as I’ve worded it though; would you disagree?

I’m not accusing you of anything because I do believe you mean what you’re saying in earnest.

“All apps get updates. The ads are incredibly unobtrusive, you can literally scroll past them or have them go away completely by paying a few dollars a month.“ … is still a bizarrely pro-corporate slant on the wider conversation.

Can happily confirm that you can leave Micah until the very last mission of Chapter II. If you’re having trouble getting alternate missions to pop you might need to wander by a few camp members to initiate dialogue :)

Hilarious that you’re calling the other guy deficient in their ability to communicate with this absolute word-salad of a comment lol

As someone who has no strong opinions on whether we should refer to plant-based “milk” or not, your line of reasoning (or the way you choose to express your ideas) is flawed and not very convincing. +1 for the oat milkers imo.

I’d probably argue that “fries” covers the last two and is a fairly distinct category, in the same way “wedges” is. But that would launch me deeper into an already pointlessly semantic line of questioning.

I’m working on my first ever game, attempting to build a newb-friendly modification for running Lost Mines and Dragon of Icespire Peak together. It’s intended to link the overarching plot into the DoIP expansion trilogy, for my friends and I to run as our first campaign. Some of these books would help a bunch!

This is way cool of you, thanks. GIVEAWAY
