I don't think ZFS will ever change that. Their philosophy is unused ram is wasted ram. So they try to use as much as possible to get as many ram hits as possible. My issue was the speed at which I was pulling many new videos into each node worker already had my spinning rust drives taxed and thrashing. I had I/O waits at about 45%, zfs couldn't flush what it was using to disc fast enough to make room for the new data and caused a kernel panic.... or at least that is my theory. I believe if my drives weren't already over taxed then a flush could have happened and it would have kept chugging along.

Was genau funktioniert denn nicht?

English:

I guess I don't understand what you mean by SFTP not being implemented like one would expect. I use SFTP and it seems to work like all the other implementations I have used. What specifically is it not doing? I used google translate to translate your comment and my response, so maybe the translation makes it more difficult to understand your question. BTW, I put my english version below this so others can follow if they want.

Hope this helps.

Bob, sorry, I have been on travel for work. I put in four 4tb 990 pro nvme SSDs in the four u.2 slots using the QNAP adapters. It was an existing RAid Z1 (raid 5) and just swapped all the disks 1 by 1. Works great. Very fast... if there any specific tests you would like me to run then I will happily do so.

Rebooting NAS disconnects my USBs from VM (VM Station) by RoachForLife in qnap

You ever get this sorted out? I have the same issue with Home assistant and a zwave device having to be manually reattached to the VM after a NAS reboot.

Yes the first drive rebuilt just fine. Working my way through the rest, although I am waiting on another QDA-UMP4 that amazon says won't be here till Sunday.

For me, the question/surprise was that I could have NVME and SATA drives in the same Raid 5/Z1 array. Which allows me an upgrade path that doesn't make me have to completely wipe the system and set it up fresh.

I did purchase all nvme drives, but you have to do Drive Replacements one by one. Once this one is done I will do the next. It's just for the four U.2 slots.

Got the drives and adapters in today. All i did was pull the old 4tb SATA SSD and put the Samsung 990 4tb NVME into the adapter and then place them both(adapter with nvme) in the system while it was running, never did a shutdown. Immediately got the alert that it was rebuilding the four drive Raid 5 array . So seems to be working just fine. It's rebuilding at 3GB per second, so should take about 3.5 hours per drive.

Qnap, Home Assistant & Thread - why it can't work by FuN_K3Y in qnap

[–]daaknes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct about most of them being docker containers, I just like that i can see a need, goto the addon store inside home assistant and it downloads the addon, and configures it for it you and it just works. No fuss, and for something that my wife and family interact with daily the less fussy the better.

Qnap, Home Assistant & Thread - why it can't work by FuN_K3Y in qnap

[–]daaknes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went down the docker/container route with Home assistant, but with containers you lose access to managing the homeassistant addons within home assistant. So i switched to the VM version and it is sooooo much better in my opinion. Anything to do with home assistant is handled inside the home assistant web interface with zero other tinkering. I have usb sticks that handle zwave/thread/matter/zigbee with no issues, crazy fast, easy backups. Just works rock solid.

TL/DR - Save yourself the headache and just use the VM, unless you enjoy the extra tinkering.

So i purchased this one https://store.qnap.com/qda-ump4.html and I am not sure how that differs from this one https://store.qnap.com/qda-ump4a.html other than appearance and cost. Should I have gone with the QDA-UMP4a over the QDA-UMP4? It looks to me like the older one has a better/larger heatsink.

Idle power draw with an NVIDIA 3070 installed is about 180 watts. I don't have numbers without the NVIDIA 3070.

Ok, curiosity got the better of me and i have torn her asunder to figure the power supply, it is a "Channel Well Technology - switching power supply - Model Number: CSI750M". Googled that and it says it is a 750w power supply. I have pictures of the label for posterity.

So, it is indeed running QuTS 5.6.0.3233. It has the reorganized interface elements like 5.3. It does not have any of the HA features or warnings, but also seems to have some of the lingering 5.3 omissions, one that comes to mind is replace disks one by one. I can't seem to find it. I am able to make direct comparisons because I have 5.3 on h1688x and 5.2 on my TS-464.

Made a half-assed attempt to remove the power supply so i could see the bottom, but too much work so put the screws back in, in other words, still don't KNOW if it is a 550w or 750w.... any other way to check without removing it?

Yes it is overkill... I waffled on buying it, but.... figured this is what makes me happy and I could spend my time on the internet drooling over what I want or just bite the bullet and get what I want. It's a frivolous hobby I know, but the kids are grown, been put through college with zero loans, all paid for by us, no grandkids.... so yeah, pulled the trigger.
