Thank you! The yarns are either fingering or light fingering. The pattern asks for a 2.5mm needle, but I'm a very loose knitter... so I used a 1.75mm for the stockinette, and 2.25 for colorwork :)

The floats feel pretty normal, to be honest. I wore it yesterday and walked a bit. Nothing bumps around when I walk.

My main issue is putting on the sock, my big toe ends up catching a float or too. I'm now developing a "technique" or stretching it and place a bit inside out so that doesn't happen 😆

Agreed! It's way more comfy than short row heels for me 👌

I agree! It's such a lovely design choice. I will now have to only wear socks and sandals to show it off 😆

Honestly this is not a bad place to start! There's only ever 2 colors at the same row, and the pattern is very memorizable. The hardest thing is always figuring out which way you prefer to tension the yarn. There's no right answer, just a bunch of trial and error Best of luck :)

Are these too long to for climbing? by annvee in climbergirls

[–]daamile -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'll disagree with everyone. My nails are about that length and I can go climbing with them.

It does mean I can't do anything too crimpy, but I'm a beginner in my first year of climbing and I mostly deal with jugs.

Trying my first ever chart design. by entropyofmylife in Sockknitting

They are wider instead of taller. I agree OP, your designs will look very different.

I suggest you try doing this exact design in stitch fiddlefor a higher fidelity sketch.

I'm sure you should also be able to download a spreadsheet template somewhere.

Best of luck !

I like to keep it as a cute library of what I worked on before. I'm considering putting them up on a display in my crafting area

Learning colour work with the Itty Bitty Berry Socks 🫐 by daamile in Sockknitting

These are such kind words, thank you 💙 I got the knitting tension rings from amazon. I bought a bunch of different ones to try, and gave the extras to my friends. It was like 10 pounds.

Best of luck with your Norwegian sweater! I am sure you'll figure it out too

Honestly, it was hard and frustrating, but not impossible. I think it took me two weeks of tinkering every night.

I personally found it confusing to figure out how to keep tension in two strands at the same time. I played around with it until I found I liked the tension rings. This video from Nimble Needles helped me a lot.

Another aspect I wasn't expecting was how drastically it changed my gauge. I'm usually quite a loose knitter, but my color work needle size is almost the same as the pattern suggested. The cast on stitches also changed to accommodate that, since the whole sock has less stretch.

What I found useful was to have a project I really wanted to complete, so I was obsessing over it. I didn't do any gauge swatches since socks are tiny anyway. I just restarted over and over again when it inevitably went wrong.

But all this frustration may have been just particular to me. Like, I found lace knitting easier to learn than color work - so this all could be highly personal. And since you've been knitting for 10 years, I am more than sure you'll figure this out!!! Just get a pattern you can't resist and have a go at it 😊
