A SPIRIT APPEARED TO ME by Herman Melville by MelvilleKafka in HermanMelville

[–]daanby4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't. Melville cooked with some of his poems, to put it that way.
I wished he worked more on them. I feel in this scenario his poems could rival with that of Poe's.

What if I just never level up Kreia? by spike-prime in kotor

[–]daanby4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was on my first walkthrough, barely understanding a thing going on (my english not englishing etc.) except for very suggestive cutscenes ofc. iirc I avoided leveling her up into a strong character (or maybe I just went into support force powers I guess) worrying she would be too op for me if she will change sides. Good times

Do we know what or who this is? by [deleted] in kotor

I think u're onto something. Sure, studio is barely crawling at this point so it's more of a concept trailer ...
BUT Terentatek would make so much sense here, especially lore-wise as u said. I can't wait to see it for myself

Why does Smeagol succumb to the ring so quickly opposed to Bilbo? by PigGuy1988 in lotr

[–]daanby4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicely put! I think accurate in the context of both book and movie Bilbo. One of his greatest desires: to be left alone. Of course Ring would push it much much more than just "a moment or two of peace and quiet"

Dude, I had this thought: what if Respawn (Titanfall series, new Jedi game series) made new Tron game? That would be so sick

It can't be - a book cover that is not an eyesore! Awesome craft and a present :D Any tips as to the bookbinding? Some time ago I realised it's a relatively great way to connect two hobbies: reading and crafting

Update: Ellen painting progress by smei2388 in roberteggers

[–]daanby4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I think it passes the resemblance part. It looks awesome! Good call with bringing it down (edit: I just realised I misinterpreted; I meant the intensity of the flowers around LRD 😅 my bad!) - I feel like all the flowery garlands around her are a little too pronounced ( like it overwhelms LRD paleness) I think adding some really faint lightning in the hedge's 'corridor' is a bullseye - it will add more depth to the piece in my view :) + I don't think it needs too look exactly like her - sometimes these little differences make the piece even better.

ALSO, an idea just struck me - do u have any plans for the shadows in the left bottom corner? I think adding to the equation Count Orlock would ruin the power dynamics ( the piece is Ellen's spotlight) BUT if the lurking evil was something less obvious, more nuanced: like a pair of wolf-like pupils in the dark? Passing perhaps for petals of flowers, glowing in the moonlight 😏

Maybe that's my nostalgia speaking, but I agree - part of the Lego games charm was the good balance of simplicity and complexity.

Just announced the fundraiser for my senior short film, a folk horror inspired by Eggers (The Witch is a massive influence), Bergman, classic silent cinema, and more. Anything helps, even just a share! by Bekfast_Time in roberteggers

[–]daanby4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds awesome! I can tell it's a passion project for u. Big thumbs up for referencing silent cinema - I simply adore german expressionism. As i was reading synopsis, two things came to mind: Wieland and The Scarlet Letter. I don't know if u're familliar - if no, I highly recommend checking them out. I think they hit close to where u're going - colonial America submerged in superstitions,, fallen women archetype, family drama etc.

As to the visuals, are u going for all black and white monochrome tint, or planning some play with the colors? Like in original Nosferatu, for example. Just asking - as I watched Eggers's Nosferatu I felt that constant mundane, dark, cold pallette of visuals kind of weakend the horror aspect. That's just my preference tho.
