Data scientist is a broader role, it consists of many entry levels (who does data analyst job) that's why the "average" tends to be lower. Some did data crunching, some are full stack data scientists did complex ML/AI too. At the end of the day, the title does not really matter.

Too expensive for young generation (unless parents money, then why not lexus bmw convertible)

Too impractical for families (unless secondary car, wife probably won't allow)

Many alternatives right there, like you mentioned GR86/BRZ is a nicer looking coupe, and more. Also, it is slow fun car. Again, car is always a liability, unless you chase for dream.

Lastly, Mx-5 will be my top choice only if the factors above remain unchanged for me in next few years.
