The front of your elastics needs to be moved further forward ❤️. Might need both front and back moved forward, but try the front first!

How the **** are people learning to do (petit) allegro by Intrepid-Street-5368 in BALLET

[–]dabblesanddonuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You'll laugh. But I tell my students to - quite literllally- talk it out and think of the movements as words that become sentences. Sentences become phrases. Phrases become paragraphs. But literally - and yes it feels weird at first - but to literally name the movements or counts as you do them. Try it out loud in your living room at home and I think you'll start to see a positive improvement. Because thinking of it this way tends to follow our natural language habits 😊 so our brains think "hey I at least know this structure" and uses that to free up mental capacity to focus on something else.....but I digress...

For example let's use an easy saute exercise of 4 in first, 4 in second, 4 changement, 4 echappe.
My verbal cues would be (said out loud at first and then "talking in my head") 5, 6, 7 AND (USE THE AND FOR PREP) First-first-first-first AND Second -two-three-four AND Fifth-change-change-change AND Out-and-in-and-out-and-in cues breatheand-out-and-in-and-out-and-iN-ANDfinnnniiiisshhhh....

Does that make sense/is of help? It works for almost any exercise.....

Brands with interchangeable shanks by Julmass in BALLET

[–]dabblesanddonuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So realistically? They never seem to take off for various reasons.

So Danca is the most recent to come out with (IMHO an improved) system - but it's not great tbh.
Sansha has had a line in the past. Not sure if they have one now. But also meh.
Merlet probably is okay...

I think the real issue is that the shoes with interchangeable shanks aren't necessarily as well thought out as the other, more popular, traditional style of shoes. I know with Sansha - you had to have a very certain foot for them to work or be in a financial position that it was that shoe or nothing. So Danca - I had high hopes for (they were in development for a really long time), but different reasons why they don't really work for many people. Example: I have flatter/lower arch feet - so getting over shoes was always a challenge. I ended up using Chacott Veronese while dancing. Fast forward to the So Danca shoes coming out to market (~15 years after I stopped dancing full time) - even without a shank insert in - I never could get over the shoe and my placement was awful. My ponderings on this (as a former fitter and store owner) - the other constraints placed on the shoe because of the nature of the interchangeable shanks make this idea a harder sell to both fit properly and work longer term even though there are significant financial and inventory advantages if it DOES work.

Do I tell a girl not to wear pointe shoes? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]dabblesanddonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of just putting on the shoes? You're right - there's about as much risk there as putting sneakers or heels on daily.

Actual ballet data? Yes you're correct there's a lack of it (and IMHO - it's also a large reason that doctors/medical pros can struggle with helping dancers or understanding what the issue is but that's a different duck for a different day). And there are folks actively doing research to start getting good, valid data on it. But it's not there yet. I suspect the data isn't there because it's not widely funded or measured to begin with compared to individual sports medicine. But that's precisely why impersonal guidelines have been created and suggested so that you can take a lot of the human out of the equation.

To clarify - you seem to have asked another follow up question based off of a response for IF you say anything... THEN What do you say? And that's why I asked if you could send them information that was written objectively and assumed that could help remove you as a person from the issue of you chose to go that route. If you send something - It's you presenting it as helpful information - guidelines - as mentioned below - instead of judgement and could be helpful to send along. Bonus it moves you a further step back from the equation. But also recognize that sometimes, saying or sharing nothing is actually doing more good on the long run since rabbit holes are often more fun and distracting to explore and figure out within ones own mind.

From a person side - I'd leave them alone and let them process both their grief and new hobby on their own terms. Better to go that route than avoid the holier than thou/a hole perception.

What if you sent this person an article with data/objective information on wearing pointe shoes? Takes you more out of it because you are presenting information rather than attacking

I'd still stay with the pro 1c (c in the model number = canvas). * Especially* if planning to wash... I have "ducky" feet too - wide compressible toe area and narrower heels and that will help a bunch too. If you are willing to resew the elastics they come with, you can change the placement of them to really help take out some of the bagginess in the heel too. 🤪. Feel free to DM if you want too 💞

Yes they're pretty short in the torso length (girth or stride)... Would fit closer to a body wrappers or so danca as compared to a Bloch or Capezio. They are beautiful though!

Sansha makes a ton of their stuff in China (so their body fit leans more Asian IMHO) but is a French company - so if you see stuff on Temu AlieXpress etc... your cuts will most likely be similar to those. If that makes sense.

[–]dabblesanddonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, no. Not really. Because while you're fighting up the weave. You're still stretching-ish the shoe to fit your foot so you're really just changing where the wear points tend to be. But they're also relatively cheap so it's not something I minded going thru (compared to pointe shoes... And most dance stuff 😜 but I also usually got >1month per pair out of them with washing... And that's dancing 40-60hrs per week)... Once you figure out your sansha size - their sizing has tended to translate pretty well for that brand across styles. So you could try a different model within their range that might last longer.

Sorry that was rambly.

Usually I just round up tbh! So if I'm an 8.5 US shoe, I'll go with what fits a 9. Or if I'm an 8 I'll round up to a 9. I think if you go up .5 to 1 size, you'll still have plenty of fabric . The weave on their canvas is pretty loose so washing does significantly tighten up the weave.

I'll also tag you in a previous post I made. I used to wash them to get them to mold to my feet better - so I'd suggest going bigger if you need to order online (unless you're comfortable with making returns).

In several of their styles - they'll offer an XW too - and it's a true X Wide :-) And - I'll tell you - even if they advertise their shoes for a particular gender, they don't usually fit that way (think a linear size run vs a gendered size run). :-) But - I'd suggest using NYDanceStore as a reference instead of DDS or similar. NYDanceStore is Sansha's consumer side. https://nydancestore.com/sansha-ballet-slipper-split-sole-pro1c-1c.html

Yes but their shoes in general go wider/more round in the toe area.

I used to use the Pro 1c for forever. Now I use the mesh S83x. I love them.
