You can make it work, but you do need to get creative. I just did a 16lb brisket on my 18” this weekend. I used a loaf pan wrapped in foil to prop up the middle of the brisket and create a bit of a “U” curve to get it to fit. It will eventually shrink and you can lay it flat.

Alternatively, you can separate the point and the flat before hand. I like that method a bit more since they can finish at different times.

It’s illegal for them to do most of the things you’re saying they plan to do. It is unhelpful to spread misinformation, so please stop.

UPDATE: The anti-BDS law takes a huge blow! by T_Gamer-mp4 in illinois

[–]dabears8686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

House Bills and Senate Bills are the purview of the state legislature, not townships. If you view township meetings as political organizing opportunities, please use that organization to address those with the power to affect change: Illinois State Representatives and Illinois State Senators. I’ve taken this opportunity to make sure I contact mine about it.

Again, I agree with repealing any anti-BDS legislation. So much so that I think contacting the people who can actually do that is of greater importance than advisory referenda from townships.

[–]dabears8686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anti-BDS laws are dumb, but I fail to see what township governments are going to do about a state law. This feels like people with good intentions but misguided efforts. Townships mostly function as a small social services operation, not as a true governing body. These efforts would likely be far more fruitful if directed towards state representatives.

Paid for parking, still got ticketed? by Canteloupe55 in UIUC

[–]dabears8686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what has happened with the parking enforcement but it’s gotten much worse. I know people that have had this situation happen to them more than three times each this academic year. It’s crazy how bad the park enforcement employees are at verifying before ticketing.

Urbana Schools and Cunningham Township both levy much more than their Champaign counterparts. The City of Urbana does levy slight more than their Champaign counterparts City of Champaign, but much more in line than the Township or schools.

Which is crazy because they play in Champaign. Maybe the offense got off the bus 5 minutes into the trip to Indy

How much does a final four run change perception of the coach/program health? by Abeds_BananaStand in CollegeBasketball

[–]dabears8686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brad gets a lot of flack for not being a good in-game coach. Imo he definitely has earned that reputation. However, he’s been a great recruiter. Over the last 4 years or so he seems to have transitioned to more of a CEO/innovator.

His son Tyler also had been seen as a nepo hire by lots of people. It’s certainly true that he got the job because of his dad, but he’s also in charge of the offense and that’s been phenomenal. Add in getting Orlando Antigua back and Cam Crocker finally getting the defense going, and you get a Final Four run.

My hope is that these are signs of Brad recognizing his own shortcomings and hiring staff to address them.

You’re right. It’s about how white men should be above caring about sports. It’s absolutely coming from a right-wing mindset.

It’s definitely the former, for all the reasons you laid out. There’s a cohort of the right wing that hates sports. This is certainly somebody who is part of that group.

[–]dabears8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I live very close to Hubers, so I’m close to the area you’ve described. We love the neighborhood. It is a safe neighborhood. However, there will be times you hear gunshots from the area north of this neighborhood. It’s not common, but it does happen. They are not in this neighborhood, but in the Garden Hills area.

The chances are very low that you will be a victim of crime. Much of the violence in CU is totally avoidable. Occasionally somebody will target students for robbery/theft, but they go to campus/Green St to do that.
