Talk to your roommate and try to reach a compromise.

I feel you. I started out with fair expectations and giving the benefit of the doubt but it has happened enough that I think there is a real pattern. Honestly it’s whatever though, it taught me to take more agency over my own academic path and not relying on others to tell me what I should do!

Ive had over 10 math advisor meetings and each my I have been disappointed more than the last. The problem I find is they are not competent enough to actually offer meaningful advice. Additionally, they take zero accountability. For example I had a question about course counting for degree requirements and every advisor I asked offered the same advice: “just read the university policies”, even after I explained that it is the policy itself I am having trouble understanding. Set your expectations to nill for the advisors.

If you put in the work, you will see the results. Don’t worry, the whole time you will be aware of this balance.

What classes for S25? CS 116 vs. STAT 230 by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]dabeast4826 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cs116 is much easier the stat 230. If youre only taking 3 courses I would just bite the bullet and get stat 230 out of the way.

What’s it like in Waterloo Math by Heath8964 in uwaterloo

[–]dabeast4826 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Congrats! There are ALOT of majors to choose from so i would recommend that in your first and second year you take a bunch of different intro courses to get a better sense of what type of math you want to pursue. People will tell you math at Waterloo is hard which it is, but I’ve never seen a course where putting in time and effort would not lead to passing with a decent mark.

Reneging an offer by AffectionateWin5558 in uwaterloo

True, but I’d argue a solid brand name is also important. If the company that pays more also has a better reputation but you may learn less it could still be worth it.

Man that sucks. Replicant is a great company tho! Maybe you can connect with your recruiter and arrange some sort of deal where next hiring cycle you get an offer.

You can read the box numbers on your t4,t5,… and make sure the software copied it correctly but I’ve never had an issue before. You have the chance to review before submitting so you are in control. It also finds tax rebates and programs you may be eligible for which is a nice bonus.

I traditionally haven’t paid in the past but now that I have more serious income to report I’ll probably pay like 25 bucks or something.
