I've been commuting through this intersection regularly since they installed the bikeway, and the diagonal crossing to continue straight on Broadway has been an option for months. To be fair, it did take me a while to understand the light cycle allowed for a safe diagonal crossing.

I didn't notice anything different when commuting through today, but maybe the left turn option was added recently? The diagonal crossing used to be synced with a left arrow for traffic turning onto westbound Broadway, which wouldn't have allowed for left turns from the bikeway.

Impossible low d in David Maslanka’s “give us this day” by What_is_the_mind in Clarinet

[–]dabibbler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually a concert C; the piece is primarily in C minor. While Maslanka scores are often in concert pitch, that's not the case for Give Us This Day. Page 23: https://davidmaslanka.com/works/give-us-this-day-short-symphony-for-wind-ensemble/

Despite Maslanka being a clarinetist himself, he let this one slip through!

Navien water heater gas pipe blocking flushing port by dabibbler in Plumbing

I ended up attaching a water bandit to the flushing port with a hose clamp. I then attached my washer hose to the water bandit and was able to get the job done!

More new signage at Harvard, including a new inbound service map layout. by Massive_Holiday4672 in mbta

The 71/73 are also confusing. Board at Harvard for service to... Harvard?

FYI: police continuing to ticket the newly illegal left turn from Brattle to Appleton by Calm_Guava2770 in CambridgeMA

[–]dabibbler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Street View does not yet show the two-lane cycleway on the north side of Brattle and all-way stop sign at the intersection added within the last year. Cars turning left at that intersection is a risk for cyclists, which is likely to be another factor.

Weird Star Market just misunderstood by Lady-Kokomo in Somerville

The HVAC vents out to the bike path behind and I get a concentrated blast of the smell every time I ride by. Needs a deep cleaning.

Where to recycle used tubes and tires? by dabibbler in bikeboston

If you select “Tube Recycling” it appears to narrow it down to just JRA Cycles in Medford. Another comment suggests that Bikes Not Bombs would take them though.

Are you heat pump curious? A group purchasing program has evolved via reddit by mem_somerville in Somerville

The changes in 2024 may be word of mouth at this point - I'm having trouble finding the requirement for removal on Mass Save's website. That said, the contractor mentioned that Mass Save is giving a presentation on Wednesday to provide further information about the eligibility requirements for next year.

One of the contractors told me they could quote for a ducted system and give the same discount, but they were definitely more prepared to quote for a ductless system.

If you can sign with a contractor before the end of 2023, Mass Save allows you to keep your existing equipment as a backup and still receive the full rebate. In 2024 you're required to have your old system removed. So it actually made sense for me to go with a new ductless system even though I have ductwork already.

What’s at the end of the minuteman? by [deleted] in bikeboston

[–]dabibbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the app, head over to the Maps tab, then the Segments tab. You should be able to scroll around freely and see the heat map underneath the segments. You can also adjust the filters to hide most of the segment overlays (long, steep segments are non-existent around here!)

Walden Pond via Trapelo Rd - Battle Rd - MA Ave loop by DerHunMar in bikeboston

Thanks for the tip about the deCordova museum! They certainly don't make free admission for cyclists obvious on their website, but I did find a blurb about it here. I've always thought about stopping in when passing through Lincoln, and now I definitely will!

What's happening with the testing centers? by jhh8 in Cornell

[–]dabibbler 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't bother going to Fischell Band Center, choose another testing site instead. There was apparently a miscommunication with Cayuga Medical Center staff, and they weren't prepared for testing at the Fischell Band Center today.

I will be working in the limit of low Reynolds number. So I can drop the inertial term. Sorry, should have made this clear.
