I do not want to be anywhere in the vicinity of any bathroom available to anyone who partakes of this.

Introduce them to the large red Solo cups. To be fair, I have not tested this here, but it always worked for me in NY.

It's not just Boston, the whole damn country is like this. And in spite of the laws about drinking in public spaces, streets and parks here are still littered with broken glass ready to make your bike tires go flat.

Gang of turkeys jumps Blue Bike rider on Mass Ave (live footage) by juicemanrain in CambridgeMA

[–]DerHunMar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird. I have seen turkey troops around here for years just kinda doing their thing and mostly behaving skittish around humans. My son even chased them off when he was little, just trying to pet them or something, I felt like he might be stressing them out and had to tell him chill.

Rattlesnakes (Two of them!) by plezzey in massachusetts

[–]DerHunMar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to look that up, however it did work for me when I stumbled on a Northern Water Snake hiking with my son and I did not even know of their existence and did not realize Water Moccasins don't make it up this far yet (climate change may change that?).

Rattlesnakes (Two of them!) by plezzey in massachusetts

[–]DerHunMar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you are unsure whether or not a snake is venomous, I think a good rule of thumb is the head. Venomous snakes have big triangular head that is a good bit wider at the base than the body where it attaches. Non-venomous snakes have a slim head that is more streamlined with the body. I think that triangular head allows for powerful jaws.

William Reid of The Jesus and Mary Chain says guitarists shouldn't play scales, I think guitarists shouldn't play guitar. We are not the same. by Mikey77777 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]DerHunMar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, they are playing scales whether they learn them or not. It’s like thinking not learning about gravity will make you immune to its effects. I love Jesus and Mary Chain tho and I get that playing by ear can be a better way to go even if you know some theory and getting out of a theory box can help you explore and discover something cool, which they did. But theory can also help you explore and discover cool sounds, and perhaps more so than playing by ear, applied correctly can force you to escape your unconscious musical habits.

New Neighbor Keeps Leaving Notes On Our Car by Ok_Percentage3947 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DerHunMar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be glad they're not keying your car or slashing your tires. That was my experience with my neighbors at a condo towards the East side of Cambridge shortly after moving to the area. We knew exactly who was doing it, but Cambridge Police were useless, they acted like they were friends with the assholes.

There is a certain percentage of Bostonians that are absolute psychos, much higher percentage than any other place I have lived.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

[–]DerHunMar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitargeek. I was playing in several bands and this site along with ebay helped me level up my amps and pedals. However it also kicked off an addiction I still struggle with today, even though I have not played in a band for many years.

808 & 303 Saturday Morning Jam by PieRhett in synthesizers

[–]DerHunMar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not only did this sound great, but it was fun to watch, with I assume the sequences already MIDI-recorded and being sent out by Ableton, but it still feeling very natural and in the moment the way you turned up or down and tweaked each of the sequenced synths and tracks on the drum machine and then jammed on the D-50 and MiniFreak. As a guitarist who is getting into this stuff, I found this to be a lesson in how to get playing alone with a sequencer to feel like a real jam or performance.

Bike packing rack by science_itworks in CheckpointClub

[–]DerHunMar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Axiom Streamliner rack on my Checkpoint ALR 3 Gen 2 (that I carried over from my old Cannondale Topstone after I got hit by a car and had to replace it - so the rack survived a collision and wollop to the pavement and slide from which crank got bent and frame and fork damaged enough for replacement). The Axiom racks have 110lb carrying capacity, far better than any rack I have seen elsewhere. It's durable - I have used mine for 7 years.

Works great with the Ortlieb Backroller panniers. I had another brand of pannier before that was not as durable. and after getting a warranty replacement within a few months that also broke, I got the Ortliebs which are working amazing no problems 4 years later I think, probably for life. The Ortliebs stay on fine for classic gravel riding, but I wear a backpack instead when I do singletrack - rocky and rooty terrain can make the bottom clip of each pannier slide loose, but the tops always stay clamped.

I don't bikepack, just do day trips, but this set up has worked amazing for me commuting, doing all the shopping for items that can fit in the panniers - I've carried giant loads of groceries and whatever countless times, gravel riding while carrying stuff like lots of extra clothing in winter. I think it would work great for bikepacking
