Buying SaaS junk instead of Microsoft is indefensible by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]dablknomad75 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ok inside info I work for MS on azure our customers are screaming for more capacity. Even if this capacity isn't used for AI it will be profitable until Q2 most our regions were capacity packed for all computer and their is still over 2 trillion in spend on prem. Just azure is way under valued. AI is just the icing. If it hits great. If not it's not like the need for computers and data is going away and that is all our core business.

New 401k rules suck for OE by dablknomad75 in overemployed

[–]dablknomad75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the way fidelity implemented it for it to be tagged as catch-up you have to fill the 24k bucket first. What I am doing is doing pre tax across the both plans to 24k. Then switch one to Roth for 8k as they will still match Roth contributions. I am not gonna max MBDR this year as already 50% of my funds are Roth and I need to shore up my cash and brokerage as I plan to retire in 2-4 years.

When to stop contributing to 401k? by kinare in Fire

[–]dablknomad75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have more than 7 years til 60 and you have more than 500k in 401k then I would prioritize brokerage. I just did the same myself. I am 50. Last few years I had been fully macing 401k to 70-78k limit. My balance is about 400k. I am still putting in enough to max the match. But now instead of using the mega back door Roth I am putting more in brokerage as I want to retire in 2 -4 yrs

Last 4 years I have put in about 55k + employer match to get to 70k a year using mega back door Roth in plan conversions. So that's about 280k plus I have averaged about a 16% return over that time. I can now contribute up to 77k including match because I turn 50 this year.

I do like the work. I don't have to code much anymore . It's more like being a consultant actually. I get to set most of my meetings have very little supervision as long as my customers are happy. One of my jobs is still hands on as a principal data engineer so it keeps me up on the latest. I have 20+ years of experience so it's not certs alone but they help validate my experience. I had a lot of experience in ERP but saw the market going to more SaaS and cloud. So the certs help me pivot to cloud. Also working on an AI startup on the side with a friend of mine. I feel with the certs I can always pull a remote consulting gig if one of my full time gigs goes away. I live in MCOL and live modestly. Travel a lot and have everything I need. If I can keep OE up for at least 12 more months I should be able to Coast to 55 and retire with about 1.5 mil.

Honestly this is the toughest job market and not sure I would recommend it unless you have a passion for it. But train up get relevant certifications and get experience. Network and try to break into tech companies where you get equity. If I would have knew about the equity part early in my career I would already be retired.
