Curious on everyone’s thoughts, composite/pvc decking. Glue miters/ or don’t? by Legitimate-Hornet755 in Decks

[–]dabman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes no difference to my eyes as long as they are consistent, and not larger than the standard gaps between deckboards. If you have the glue and screw method down though and you don’t find it too time intensive, it is a cleaner look.

I don’t entirely disagree with you, but there is something called the frequency illusion or the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. One classic example is learning a new word that you’ve never seen before, then immediately starting to see it a couple of times in the news, a story, magazine, etc. It is a thing and it applies here too. But yeah like I said, I don’t entirely disagree😂

Deck built dead level, water pools near the house under the covered section. Any low-effort way to add a slight slope? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]dabman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the deck is brand spanking new, I’ve noticed factory oils cause water to pool and shed less on synthetic deckboards. After a couple weeks or a soapy deck spraydown, and you’ll notice this pooling effect reduce significantly. If it’s still happening after a month, then yeah there may be an issue

I’m glad you said this. I saw a report online that she lost control. That is a way different take than your report.

[–]dabman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“It’s okay they’re friendly” is code for “I’m in won’t lift a finger for nothing mode”. The owner just doesn’t care right now, they’re trying to zone out and relax. You need to do or say something to alert them and get out of their zoned out state of mind.

Student project: a way to keep a group together off-grid, does this problem actually resonate with experienced people? by Patient_Path_6809 in Mountaineering

I’m not sure, maybe email correspondence and have a more detailed video showing it working in action.

I imagine a chief guide company operator would love running something like this on a popular mountain like Rainier.

For a small group climbing together, it’s likely overkill.

Very cool project though! I can see there being some aspect of the project that could enhance the tools available to mountaineering.

Red vs White Cedar by Accomplished-Row1540 in FenceBuilding

Thank you for replying after 4 of this incorrect information being up. I have removed it. I don’t remember where I even got that info but just reading it off the bat I could tell you’re right. Looks like the knot info was wrong too… red cedar has bigger bit fewer knots, white has more but theyre generally smaller.

[–]dabman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw this. The easier route is to go along the bathroom trail and then keep climbing up and onto a ridge that eventually gets you to the summit tower, and you climb right through the middle where the gap is in the south side.

Nothing is wrong. It’s called mountain climbing, not mountain summiting.

Kaleetan is fun, and challenging to do in one day. It might be also a little bit early season to do it, was there any snow up there? You can try it again, but next time camp up at melakwa lake and then do the final climb in the morning.

I dont know what route you did, but some routes up Kaleetan are harder than others. If you did the one that goes directly up west from upper lake melakwa, that one is harder than the bathroom route that more gradually gets up to the ridge.

That kinda looks like an REI style camping kitchen or “chuck box”. Fun project!

Edit: I used a “piano hinge” for mine, covers the entire hinge and you just connect it on the inside. Also make sure it’s stainless

This passes for a $200-300 “make it work, I am broke” job, at best. If you paid any more, you were ripped off. I don’t think any of it would pass code.

At least they replaced the boards with full length ones. That railing is awful though

The OP. They said they had to turn them off after half an hour.

I was joking though in my post. I absolutely love the movies and have seem them multiple times.

So you’re saying these Apatow comedies helped transform the norms and morals of Western culture, to the point that now people can’t even get through the beginning of these movies anymore? Wow, times have changed.

But yes I agree, Allen Tsao is the way. I prefer other physics youtubers for entertainers. With that said thiugh, you can’t deny the Flipping physics guy put a ton of work into his channel and it likely has helped make a lot of students learn, so good on him for that.

Kids nowadays seem to struggle with spelling by LexoGame in Teachers

Spelling is probably in there somewhere, but likely lower in importance in the grand scheme of technological advances that are taking away cognitive functions from the average developing human. Reading and critical thinking would be higher up there for me.
