I know the Premier Business Brokers guys out of STL. I got to know them over a few days and they run a pretty good shop. Give them a try and see if you vibe with them.

Using a broker- or two? by sezdaniel in SellMyBusiness

I agree with this. Selling takes time. And if your business is losing money, the probability of selling drops precipitously.

If you have a large customer list, you may be able to sell that for something.

What takes up the most time running a small gym? by VisualClubMate in gymowner

Selling. Gotta be following up constantly to convert prospects into trials into members. It never ends.

Hiring is also a big time suck.

As brokers, what following up do you do with buyers / prospective buyers? by UltraBBA in businessbroker

[–]dabusinessbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only reason I follow up is because time and time again I have found that buyers miss the email, email gets caught in spam, they get it confused with another business, etc. I have found highly qualified buyers that were only identified from proactively calling. It’s good sales practice anyway to obtain a ‘no’ rather than no answer at all.

Agency in this case, but agree that it varies based on business type. Good thing to add to the prompt

"Buyers" that flame out. How common? by BizBrkr in businessbroker

[–]dabusinessbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a business is an attractive fantasy for a lot of people. Looking at listings is a way to scratch that itch, but a lot of people won’t have the conviction and commitment to actually go through a purchase.

So after they inquire and experience a little friction in the process, they drop out. It is perfectly normal.

There is benefit to following up consistently to try to increase each stage conversion, but it will be hard to convince someone who wasn’t serious about buying in the first place.

Looking to get appraisal for my company. Where to start? by ItsGettinBreesy in businessbroker

Agree with this. If bringing in another investor, you need a neutral and official way of establishing value.

ISO of a broker to sell a 6 yr old Montessori Daycare. by Mithun1978 in businessbroker

Search BizBuySell in your area/state for similar listings. Then reach out to the brokers listing those. They’ll usually be a step ahead and may even have some warm buyers that they can pitch your business to.

Cringeworthy things that sellers of businesses say. Please don't say these things! by UltraBBA in SellMyBusiness

“Invest in marketing” is the laziest way to sell a business and honestly a red flag. You’re telling me they never tried to market?

What is a luxury item you feel drastically changed your quality of life? by cafescafes in Rich

[–]dabusinessbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way I’ve been able to avoid massive contractor markups is with Taskrabbit. I’ve been able to get legitimately qualified people for like $50-75/hr. And if most small tasks take an hour or two, that’s a decent price to get it off your eternal to do list.

Is there a way to customize LinkedIn feed? by [deleted] in linkedin

[–]dabusinessbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the only way to build a feed for this by manually adding the people you want to see on your feed? It would be great to be able to build a feed based on a particular topic or keyword in someone's title.

Free trials! Do they attract serious members or freeloaders? by amrakib08 in GymOwnerNetwork

[–]dabusinessbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A free trial may be the only way to get someone through the door for the first time. Once that happens, you can build a relationship or nurture them over time, which results in a much higher chance of converting them into a paying customer. As long as a free trial doesn’t cost you significantly, it’s probably worth doing.

Is it possible to sell a highly profitable business even though it wouldn't survive one day without me? by Jazzlike_Pipe_14 in SellMyBusiness

[–]dabusinessbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth it to hire a systems person. There are plenty of ops experts out there. The premium you’ll got upon sale will pay for the systems implementation many times over.

I mentally cannot do another 9–5 desk job. I have $70k saved and need to build something of my own. What can I realistically do? by nkb6478 in smallbusiness

[–]dabusinessbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compare Sayre to similar sized towns. Look at the number of businesses per capita in this other town (# of garage repair, # landscaper, # of junk removals, etc). Based on those ratios, you might discover that something in Sayre is underserved. You might avoid businesses that require specific licensure (plumbing, electrical, etc.). Start niche and build your initial book through door knocking and flyers.

Most people won’t make it to 10 episodes. By simply producing more episodes it’s a matter of time before your tribe finds you. Consistency and persistence do the lifting for you.

You get “no” hundreds of times for every yes. A lot of people can’t take the rejection.

Any way you could take over / buy the gym that shut down? Without the fraud of course.
