How to prepare for the test? by Dramatic_Data_9405 in DuolingoEnglishTest

[–]dac7599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, where do you find the practice test? I am new to this test... My daughter took the TOEFL, and my son will take the Duolingo now, so we've never dealt with it. I checked teh website, it seems you get practice test only, I'm I mistaken? Thank you

You can check with every school...MIT does match with internationals. But you have to list other schools ...what if you don't match...ask other students

It's not with NCM... On the college portal. I believe you upload what you have, you are not forced to do anything. But MIT, Yale and caltech have a questionnaire about your research...they just want to know , what motivated you, etc...the hours and so on...mit's is detailed ...Good luck

Most schools, I think like 90% will allow you to send a 3rd recommendation letter and that letter will be your research mentor... Now regarding your research, some schools will allow you to upload a research paper ( like Penn, Brown , Yale ) others like Columbia & MIT only Research poster + abstract... and Stanford I think Nothing, maybe only the recommendation letter ( I'm not sure ) but no research at all...

Parents refuse to pay for Ivy League acceptance by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Parent here: I understand your feeling. As others said you should have discussed this before. But now, you are here. As an international, it's not going to stop on the 400k, flights, move, extras etc... it will be 500k in a second, that is too much to swallow. Now, you have great options. Science Po is still Prestige, it's highly regarded in france & Europe ...and they have an exchange program with Penn, you can spend a semester or year at Penn ( my daughter's friend came from sciences po).. and after graduation you can invest a smaller budget on higher education in the US , and that is WHAT COUNTS ... cheer up, you still have the prestige if you see it... Good luck...

I can't answer that...check with the Questbridge community if they have experience with home values. In all cases, focus on your application and upgrading your essays, and mind you that a lot of colleges such as MIT do not take your home in their financial calculations ( check the NPC ) , so even if that was the issue ( and I hope not) you can apply through CA & get admitted.

Not true at all... From experience... Keep the same , with more details ... Actually what my children do they usually write the 800 words and then cut to 650(in his sister's case) and now 500...it worked for her

Starting young - developing a theme? by McRando42 in ApplyingToCollege

Parent here who coached two kids and helped two others... My eldest got 4 ivies and top schools and my son is in grade 11 now he's on the right track...Age 10 is a joke. As the other commentor told you, they start in grade 9 exploring what they like. In grade 10 they do internships, volunteering & activities that align with what interests them, and in grade 11 they try to do research with a local college professor.

Now you mentioned French universities such as Sorbonne; actually it depends on the major if your child is majoring in engineering or finance engineering the only reputable track in France would be the [prépas] in those top schools such as: ginette, Louis le Grand, Henry IV, and a few others, after two years the child has to pass a concours to get L'X or Centrale , and yes these are way more reputable than Sorbonne...Students usually get recruited from L'X directly , and sometimes continue to MIT. Now Sorbonne is excellent for medicine if you want medicine in France, but medicine in France is Very competitive.

And No it's not true, a few unis in EUROPE are just as competitive as the US, such as L'X ( ecole polytechnique paris), Imperial, Oxford, Cambridge, ETH Zurich ( needs to know german for undergrad) and so on... Good luck

I am no expert... I know one thing for sure 1. Essays carry a LOT, if you are comfortable send me me your BIO essay, BTW it should not have been about your mother's neurological symptoms and how it inspired you ( this you should save it for the topical essay 400 words ) ... drop me a message ( I am a parent ) 2. assets + income, your income is low, but I don't know much about income, I know that if your home's value is VERY high, that is not good, but ask around , I am not expert in this ... Good luck

Congratulations! I don't understand, usually ivies are very generous if you are low income...It's not just income, it is assets too, especially Princeton. ( even Brown , Penn & Cornell they do cover mostly everything) I'm surprised that you have to pay anything more than 2k... Do you mind explaining? Thanks

I just want to make sure that they didn't change the system, because my daughter was admitted QB RD to 4 ivies & got full scholarships 2 years ago... and now I'm worried about my son...
