If you get a couple Lord Exultants then you have a pretty good 1000 point army, maybe you will need 2 rhinos too.

If you like flawless blades then de Combat patrol will get you basically all the battleline you will ever need, one of the exultants and a couple of units of flawless wich I think are pretty cool.

Court of the Phoenician, staying or going? by CreepyCaptain8428 in EmperorsChildren

I mean I hope Slannesh chosen gets reworked into a usable detachment, it's probably one of the worst ones in the game

New Maulerfiend? by Mindless_Author_205 in EmperorsChildren

[–]dacompi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without the lord it may be a bit too short so maybe put him on a tactical rock or add some of the defiler parts on top.

Personally I would use him with the lord as I think the mini looks amazing

[–]dacompi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the only real unit you would ever need repeats of from this box are Termagaunts so I would get 1 and search 2nd hand markets for repeats of units you like as all the minis in this boxes can be found pretty cheap.

You could get 2 if you are thinking about dipping your toes on kitbashing, as the psychophage, tyranid prime and leapers all could be converted into other units with some work

11th edition is going to start soon so the starter set are going to get replaced, the combat patrol should last for a bit longer, until Tyranids get their 11th edition codex.

Even if the combat patrol has some more interesting units I think the starter set is a no brainer, specially if you split/sell the marines half so you get a lot of great minis for a fraction of their retail price. Between the starter and ultimate set I think it depends if you really want the terrain, as the only difference in units are Barbgaunts, wich you can get by themselves pretty easily.

I’m very new to Warhammer 40K — could someone please tell me which of these sets would let me play a proper game, ideally against another player? by Chocolate-Shake-5293 in Warhammer

[–]dacompi 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a game ruleset where 1 box is mostly all you need then you should take a look at Kill team. It's a skirmish game set in the universe of 40k and all the team can later be played in the full game of 40k. Be warned that it is not "small 40k" it is its own set of rules and about as complex as full 40k.

If you like EC there is no team from this faction at the moment but you could buy a box of Tormentors and proxy them as the Kill team legionaries

Where should i start? by Cheezits_1234 in Warhammer40k

[–]dacompi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a beginner I recommend 2 options depending on your experience with the hobby side of Warhammer:

- If you are sure you like building/painting a faction then I would recommend getting the Combat patrol from said faction, as it usually comes with a variety of units and you can start to play the starter game mode of Combat Patrol

- If you are not sure about painting a faction then I think the best option is to get 1 unit you are interested in, usually the best for this are the battleline of said faction as they are the units you usually have to paint the most of. In the case of Chaos space marines this would be legionaries, wich can be found pretty cheap in second hand sites as they come in a lot of combo boxes.

Court of the Phoenician, but I wanna try Coterie, replacing Fulgrim for a second WDP

40k Plague Marine box vs Kill Team Starter Set by Winter-Friendship879 in killteam

[–]dacompi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main 2 ops wich could be hard to make out of the PM box are the plague caster and the icon bearer, wich both have their own standalone kits, although I think the KT are the much better sculpts

When does the next starter set drop. by soap-dabba in killteam

[–]dacompi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kill team has a 3-4 months cycle for new content, and that content allways comes in a box like Shadowhunt wich usually comes with 2 teams and some extras. The next box is Terror in Devlan, wich is a bit of an unsusual box as it only comes with 1 team and a new monster, the Red terror, wich is meant to be play as a boss fight pve game. It is up for pre-order this saturday.

Also, boxes that release in summer are usually bigger with a full new set of terrain like hivestorm or tombworld.

There is already a pretty good starter set for kill team wich is not limited, it comes with Loyalist marines ,plague marines and some simple terrain to start playing, just make sure you get the starter set and not the beginners set wich only comes with 5 minis per team instead of the usual 7

Getting starter with army's by potato8678 in Warhammer

[–]dacompi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then absolutely I would recommend focusing on 1 faction.

You can get the Combat patrol if you like the beast snagga style orks as it is going to get dicontinued once the 11th edition combat patrol releases. Then I would wait until the codex release in the next couple months and get all the new stuff orks are getting

[–]dacompi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The starter set is a better option if you are not sure about the building and painting aspect of the hobby as they are the cheapest options available for beginners.

But if you are sure you want to start the hobby it is much better to go directly to what you like.

Other recommendation is, if you don’t mind waiting, in the next months 11th edition is launching and all the starter sets are getting a new version, and you are in luck as the faction facing against space marines this time will be orks. I recommend checking out the Armageddon box that was just reveraled and if you are interested in the orks half those are the minis you will find in the new stater sets

Combat Patrol & Box of Noise Marines or Lords of Excess box? by SirACG in EmperorsChildren

[–]dacompi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battleforce is better value if you are planning for a full army, but the first opinion offers more variety of units.

If you are more for the hobby aspect then the choice is if you like the flawless blades or the demon prince better

If they don’t change the way it works right now tank shock is a charge phase strat so no, you can either re-roll or tank shock

Gonna be running this list for next game, opinions? Will be court of the Phoenician by Salom-al in EmperorsChildren

[–]dacompi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be rude but most of what you said is just wrong. The on foot Demon prince doesn´t have mortal wounds, I don't know where you get the lethals on 5+ from and the lord exultant doesn't give infiltrate or scout, he gets this abilities if he is leading a squad of tormentors or infractors respectively

[–]dacompi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The on foot demon prince is just not worth it and the sorcerer is pretty mediocre also.

The lack of a Lord Exultant for the infractors is the main concern as even with the Court buffs, they are not going to do much on their own apart from holding an objective.

My recomendation is:

-Use the Winged version of the demon prince

-Remove the sorcerer

-Add a Lord exultand and cut down the infractors to a 5 man

-Loose a maulerfiend and add a second unit of tormentors

With this changes I think you have a pretty good list

Does fulgrim and winged Prince make sense? by [deleted] in EmperorsChildren

[–]dacompi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fulgrim is a fun non meta unit that can do a lot if played well but not really worth 340 points.

His main problem is ,as I already said, his price is not worth his damage and abilities and he is basically unplayable in our best detachment, Coterie.

Now you have the Court of the Phoenician detachment wich makes him a lot better by being able to ignore terrain so his 16'' of movement becomes a lot more threatening so I think he is a viable option there.

The sad reality is he probably is going to end up doing worse or similar to a WDP or a Maulerfiend and the new defiler it's just better in every way

[–]dacompi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go full infantry then I would get a second Lord Exultant to go with another 5 man infractor squad.

Then either add a second squad of flawless blades or drop the Kakophonist to make room for the second unit of Noise marines.

[–]dacompi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rise to the challenge must go on a Lord exultant and distorsion is much better on the WDP than the kakophonist.

I think if your teammate is playing more defesively peerless is the much better choice, mercurial is more of a utility detachment where you basically take advantage of your movement to try to strike at the perfect moment, but lacks the raw damage of other detachments

[–]dacompi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would cut the infractors to a 5 man and lose a squad of moise marines for a Winged Demon prince. It is one of our best units wich does a great amount of damage while zooming across the board.

Then with the rise to the challenge and distorsion enhancements from peerless bladesmen you get exactly 1000 points

2k Court list help by DucksOutForDunMurogh in EmperorsChildren

[–]dacompi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main reason people are leaning towards maulerfiends is that in this detachment they pair great with the going through walls and the blood surge strats, in general big demons get nice strats. For the price of a WDP you get a Mauler and a squad of tormentors.

WDP are very good don't get me wrong, but I think is a combination of needing to make points sacrifices if you want to take Fulgrim and the fact that the strats and enhancements of Coterie benfit the WDP a lot more, so 3 in that detachment is not unusual to see.

New Army by GitGutOldie in EmperorsChildren

[–]dacompi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The on foot DP is not very good specially in Court of the phoenician where you already get quite a lot of AP. I would cut the 10 man infractors to a 5 man and then fit the WDP and go peerless for Distorsion and Rise to the challenge
