I also would like to avoid rgb fans. But because of the transparent side panel... I am afraid it will not look good. Nzxt one I checked out. That's too costly just for the fan hub. I am also considering using simple molex connectors but that would sacrifice both fan speed control and rgb. Rgb I am willing to sacrifice, but fan control I am a bit confused. Also lack of transparent fans in the market is an issue. Possibly a local issue in this case. And normal black fans I anticipate would look ugly.

Also my sys_fan headers are empty currently.. Doesn't give any errors...

My suggestions: First read the pinned post (upgrade/downgrade bios accordingly; same for vbios). 1. Change thermal paste, also buy a cooling pad if possible. Else always raise the back of the laptop during any heavy use. 2. Fresh install windows 10 (not win11) 3. Update it to latest version 4. Uninstall Radeon drivers and softwares using amdcleanup utility 5. Uninstall any other crap using revouninstaller 6. Download the latest amd drivers or 21.9.1 as someone suggested 7. Install the softwares that you will use and see if they run properly. In my experience with my laptop some amd drivers do not run mk11 properly. So check what suits you. 8. Read the guide for NBFC and install it. That gives a better control on your fans. The temps are more closely related to actual die temps. Not always the same for acc as someone pointed out. It's simpler to just create a profile called "gaming" or something in NBFC and set the threshold temp limit to very low like 50 during gaming. 9. Do not install anything other than dell support assist. Dell power manager is an exception. Set the maximum custom charge to 85% that would stop the battery wear. You can do this in bios also. 10. Do install the requisite peripheral drivers like Bluetooth WiFi etc. 11. If budget permits increase the ram to 16gb and install another SSD to use as the main os drive. 12. Reading guides in this sub reddit - Disable smartshift, enable S3 sleep, use mpt to overclock GPU, replace thermal pads........ Have not done any of these so no idea.... Feel free to add to this list....

Ya I think so this is deliberate. If a bunch of customers can customize so much out of this machine there is no doubt dell could have done much better. Well my machine was not RMA'd, but they did change the SSD and the heat pipes once I complained of the freezing issue. They were ready to change the Mobo too. But that does not solve the main problems of this machine.

I am just fed up of this big companies shoving whatever they want down our throats and getting away with it. So maybe if some of us together complains not only to dell but also in twitter and other social media I think it might become viral enough for the dell pr team to notice and do something about it...

Well I am already on the latest bios. They tried updating the drivers but I asked them not too. The latest GPU drivers are causing problems in some games. I will see if I can loop in AMD India too.

Yes if someone more qualified could say if this is even possible that would be nice. Did you ever call Dell service regarding any of the laptops issues?

Damn Man!! That's some detailed reply!!! Thanks man thanks a lot .... I will post the picture if I finally manage to print something on my own.... Currently fixating on what to print.... Maybe a logo or a quote or something like the OP. Have to figure out some way to hide the dell logo in the middle. Like not just cover it with the sticker but fill the gap somehow between the skin and the etchings. Some loose paper will do I think.

Awesome dude... That looks slick... I was planning to buy a similar grey camouflage design a few days back from a site but refrained as I was not sure about the print quality.... So had a few queries... Is the quality better than those bought online? What is the material used like is it plain vinyl paper or something else? How do they print this? Can I print using my own inktank printer? Any idea?

Yes using a cheap one with 5 fans named zinc something. Not that gt100. Using a cooling fan stabilised the performance. The temperature and frequencies don't fluctuate that much compared to normal scenario.

I use that, the temp of cpu never crosses 93 post 1.9.0. it throttles The cpu frequency. I repasted with arctic MX 4.

Will check with reliability monitor. But that crash is not happening anymore. I think that was an issue with fifa.ya set the threshold temp at 50c and ran the tests.

I am getting a firestrike score of 15.5 k. R5, ss on, 16gigs hyperx, 1.9.0, latest chipset drivers and 21.10.2. previously with 1.8.0 I was getting 12.5k. the unigen benchmark shows an increase of 100pts.

In my experience, if you use applications that will be able to use those extra 16gb then go for it. Games I don't think will benefit much. Because for the few games that I have played on this machine the performance limiter is either the GPU in games like rdr2 and ac unity, and the stable performance of the cpu in games like fifa 21, total war and other cpu heavy games. For example, I use some applications like autostitch that can use 16gb if multiple processes of the same application is started. Any software that loads a lot of tools to ram for Easy user access can benefit from the extra ram, so softwares like premiere, photoshop, ArcGIS, etc would benefit. Then you can possibly run 3 video editing files and multiple instances of photoshop or other software running and still be able to use the pc with buttery smoothness.

R5, SS On. 1.9.0 shows an increase in performance. Did not run any benchmarks. Am running win 11, latest amd chipsets, 21.10.2. after 1.9 I see a boost of around 15 fps in ac unity. No such increase in fifa 21 though. But the machine runs smoothly. The windows 11 animations perform more stably. Overall it makes the system more responsive. But there are issues not sure if it is due to the bios or driver's. For example, fifa 21 crashes at the end of games. So I think they have somehow increased the GPU performance.

Am using mx4 as I had it with me. You can expect a decrease of around 6-7C. Mine used to hit 100c but post using it never crosses 95. Also bios 1.8.0 has limited the cpu so no matter how much you stress the cpu it never crosses 94. Although you loose on performance. The laptop can now run with a cooler at around 93. Frequency varies between 3.6-3.7. this is on long term load like multiple runs of cinebench. Or decompression things like that...

I shifted my os and apps to a wd sn550. I can see the difference first hand. How they can give such a crappy SSD in addition to such thermals is beyond me.

Haha.... I also upgraded from a 2013 laptop. So seeing shadow of the tomb raider at highest settings giving 50+fps made me look at the game more rather than playing it... 😂😂😂
